Notes, a Package, and an Entrance Post

Jackson Harley aka Mr. Saturday has arrived in Milliways. Annabelle isn't keen on anyone she knows being unprepared, so a veritable slew of notes is being left with the Bar.


"An old enemy of mine has showed up here, a man by the name of Jackson Harley." Annabelle adds a physical description of the mesmerist. "He's a dangerous son of a bitch with psychic powers and no qualms about using them to manipulate people. Avoid him if you can, but if you do run into him don't make eye contact. I can't swear that that will keep him from messing with your head, but it should at least make it more difficult for him to work his tricks on you. Annabelle Newfield"


Saturday's here from 1938. I'm sure I don't need to tell you to keep an eye out for trouble.
Annabelle Newfield

Duty discharged, Annabelle begins contemplating more pleasant matters. Annabelle knows that she's not very good with words, so she's been considering something physical that she can give Tanya in thanks for, well, everything. Annabelle herself isn't quite...antique enough to have grown up with the Victorian Language of Flowers, but she's familiar with the idea thanks to Jack Tallon. After quite a bit of flipping through various books and some conversation with Bar, Annabelle has made her decision about her gift for Tanya.

The bouquet is a mix of several plants, each with their meaning written on a piece of paper tied around their stems:
Camellia japonica unpretending excellence
Gillyflower lasting beauty
Euphorbia persistence
Gladiolus generosity
Iris wisdom
Oak Leaves bravery
Fern confidence
Snapdragon strength
White Zinnia goodness
Orchid thoughtfulness

There is also a note with the flowers.
" Tanya,
I'm not terribly good with words, especially those of a complimentary nature, so these will have to serve in their stead. I thought that these particular plants suited you rather well.
Annabelle"

And there will be much gaping and blushing from Tanya when the flowers are received...

Annabelle has been keeping an eye on the Bar. (She may have been a bit nervous about someone's reactions to a certain gift...)

Therefore, she's in the perfect position to catch Tanya's reaction. Revenge is sweet.

If Tanya looks around, she may see Annabelle sitting in a booth and looking rather pleased with Tanya's reaction to her gift.

Tanya does notice her friend, and marches over to her.

Any pretense of being upset fails to hold, since the commando is grinning widely. "Brat." Annabelle is hugged tightly. "Thank you, hon."

Annabelle is a bit nervous when Tanya starts her march toward her, but the nervousness turns to relief when she notices Tanya's grin.

The comment of 'Brat' provokes Annabelle's best 'Who, me?' innocent face. "You're welcome," she replies as she returns the hug. "I was worried that you wouldn't like them..."

"And why I would not like them?" Tanya smiles more, still holding to her friend. "It is the first time I received flowers from someone."

"I don't know, you could have not liked the colors, or been allergic, or something..." Annabelle mumbles. No, it's not a logical conclusion to jump to, but this is Annabelle we're talking about. She can tackle aliens, Doomsday events, and near fatal injury without batting an eye, but anything involving the less violent emotions tends to damage her self-confidence.

Annabelle shakes her head at Tanya's last remark, "There's no teaching some people," she says with a sigh.

"Hon, if you are going to start babbling about how you are not sure if I would be upset at you, I will have to shut you up with a tongue-kiss." Tanya smirks teasingly. "They are just flowers. Very nice, but what makes me feel all giddy and lightheaded is the feeling behind that."

"Getting flowers from my best friend, how could I ever be upset about it?"

The words 'you wouldn't' start to form in the speech que before Annabelle's brain points out the error in this statement. "...you would, wouldn't you," Annabelle says with a laugh.

Annabelle looks relieved at Tanya's statement that the feeling is what's important. "I always thought that the feeling was the important part myself," she replies with a smile.

"It is." Tanya kisses her cheek, holding her friend a minute. "Thank you."

Annabelle's smile in response is a brilliant one, as if every drop of joy and happiness in her soul is trying to express itself all at once. "You're very welcome."

"Now I have to start thinking about a gift for you." She winks. "A surprise for your next visit."

Annabelle's eyes sparkle with laughter, "A surprise? Should I start worrying about your cunning plan?" she teases.

"No." She cups Annabelle's cheek. "I would not do anything to make you upset, hon."

The words are warm and gentle, full of emotion. Which kind of emotion, it's anyone's guess.

"I didn't think you would," Annabelle says with a smile. "Well, other than make me blush horribly anyway."

The emotion in Tanya's voice seems vaguely familiar, and Annabelle tries to figure out what emotion it is that she's picking up on.

Too late, Tanya is already back to teasing. "I guess payback is only fair?" She gives Annabelle a hug. "I will go take the flowers home and in a vase... I think I have one somewhere."

"Karma," Annabelle says with a grin. "As many times as you've made me blush..." she says with a shake of her head.

"Anything that will hold them and water will work," Annabelle suggests. The cut flowers may last far longer than they ought to, Bar works in mysterious ways.

She nods, hugging her friend once more. "See you later, then?"

Annabelle returns the hug, "Sure, I'll be here."

Tanya gives her a kiss on the cheek, collects the flowers and heads off, casting a smile to Annabelle.

Annabelle is still smiling when Tanya heads off. That was definitely an idea that deserves to be repeated.
