It's a grey, chilly, drizzly, blustery day in Montreal today. And so it was a chilly, drizzly, blustery walk from Meg's morning class to the library, where she was not at all unpleased to find Milliways waiting for her instead.
Meg has settled onto one of the couches near the fire, shed her slighly damp coat and scarf and gloves, and ordered apple cider.
She's trying to finger comb tangles out of wind-blown hair, and wincing occasionally when she hits a particularly stubborn one.

"I'm assuming that is for you."

Well, it's Milliways. It's probably at least possible.
"How are you, Edward?"

Meg occasionally wonders just how much Bar knows.
"Thank you," Meg says. "We are having the sort of weather at home that means I should have braided my hair this morning."

And then nods. "It's been a good week. I was home for Thanksgiving last weekend, which was a nice break. And it was good to see my parents."
Meg assumes that Edward knows that holiday is not celebrated in late November in her part of the world.
"Are things going well for you and your family?"

He let it liner, with a shake of his head. The second or two pauses leads to. "Everyone is fine. Alice and Rose were headed shopping when I left."

There's a moment when something clicks into place from the rest of his comments. "'Maintaining cover'? Does that have to do with what happened to Dr. Cullen in the game? With the, um . . . "
What is the word she wants?
". . . shimmering?"

"Rose and Alice are a true terror when together. They shop for what they want from wherever they want it. Location doesn't matter to them. And what they can't buy they design."

Dare we use dazzling?
Whatever the proper term, his choosing to follow up on the other line of conversation is noted, and the topic of shimmering (et al) is dropped.
"Being able to design what you want and can't find must be convenient. I can follow patterns, but I'm not sure I could make one up."

"And if the dolls object to the outfits she's picked?"
Are there actually ascot arguments?

"She'll find some way to may you agree. You can't bet against her."

Except that his eyes had become more remote. He was doing that even now, wasn't he. In all seriousness. Rejecting Alice's twin visions of Isabella's future. Even when it was never a fight between them, he could not let her be right this time.

And Meg is hardly aware of all (or even most) of it, but the smirk and the remoteness are enough at odds with each other that that fact registers.
"So," she says, tone light, "since you're not shopping with your sisters, what is Milliways interrupting with having you deliver hairbrushes?"
no subject
"Nothing, as of yet."

They'll get to them when they get to them, if they need to or want to or decide to.
"Plans for later?"
The yet half-seems to imply so.
"I'd ask about for the weekend, but I don't know that it is the weekend for you."

(Hey, you put that much work into something, it's nice to know it wasn't just promptly moved on from.)
"And will that be a rematch for you and Alice and Dr. Cullen?"
Bragging rights back on the line?
