(no subject)

One very large green sprite + one big mess of READMEs + one notepad that's occasionally being written on + one rapidly-diminishing-in-its-contents glass of sprite intoxicant = a lot of growing frustration.

Why?

Matrix is trying to pick suitable names for his still-in-development baby daughter, that's why.

I think he needs help, a distraction, or both.

Here comes a distraction in the form of his wife, who sidles up behind him so her belly presses against his back.

"Hello, lover."

These cycles, there's a lot of belly to press with, huh?

"AndrAIa! Hey there!"

Oh, you're definitely a distraction here.

AndrAIa smiles, stretching to press a kiss to Matrix's jaw.

"What're you up to?"

"Thinking up names for our baby."

And getting nowhere fast.

With a bit of grunting, she manages to heave herself onto a barstool beside him.

"What have you got so far?"

"Here. See for yourself."

The list of names [accompanied by Matrix's own commentary on suitability, how it harmonises with the family surname, current level of overuse/underuse in cyberspace, and whether AndrAIa would like it, thus rendering any/all of his own opinions on it moot (haha!)] reads:

Ada
Chine
Alice
Avi
Cache
Eliza
Eula
Mantissa
Midi
Perl

And to make it clear just how difficult [necessarily or not] Matrix has made his task, the number of baby name READMEs is twice the number of current prospects already listed down.

AndrAIa peruses the list with interest, glancing over the names on the list.

"Any of these you really like?"

"None, really. This is just what I considered the best of what's to offer."

But he sure is not naming his baby "Midi".

Poor thing would be teased throughout her runtime.

Putting aside the list, she reaches for one of the books instead.

"Why don't we see what's in here together."

That sigh of relief was almost audible.

"Good idea. Two heads are better than one."

She smiles, starting to look over the file.

"Too right."

Sidelong stare.

"Was that supposed to mean something?"

AndrAIa just smiles cheerfully at him.

"Nothing at all, Sparky."

The smile that lets AndrAIa get away with ... well, everything, really.

"Right."

He takes another of the book and starts scrolling through the pages.

And still nothing pops out of him.

Maybe it's because too many of the names are feminine in sound.

AndrAIa scoffs as she looks through the names.

"Half of these are going to have the poor thing tormented in school."

"But the authors think they're good names."

Which means Matrix would take them out back and shoot them they ever laughed at his daughter.

"Well the authors can go play on Baudway for all I care."

She scans the list further then pauses, pointing one out.

"Hey, how about this one?"

"In traffic," he adds.

It takes him half a pico to find where she's looking.

"Which one?"

Right now, any name that goes well with the family name and is not ultra-girly or overused is just fine with him.

It's that hard, because he makes it that way.

"Right here," she elaborates helpfully. "Analog. Ana for short."

Oh. There. He'd missed it when he noticed Ada and Avi as names, but compared to his list it sounds a lot better than any he found.

"It could work." Pause. "'Analog Matrix'," he says aloud, to see how it sounds.

AndrAIa smiles softly, laying a hand on her stomach.

"I think I like it. Little Ana."

He smiles as he puts his hand over hers.

"I think I like it, too."

See Matrix? This wasn't so hard was it?
