Teja is in the forge, working furiously.

The midwinter holidays are not far off; also, it has been his while since he's seen Charlie, and that brings up feelings in the Goth that are best dealt with by intense sparring, or vigorous hammering.

The cats, not minding the noise, lounge by the fire.

Despite the cold outside, the door is open, and all comers, be they friend or stranger, customer or merely curious, are welcome.-

"She cannot prove you did anything unbecoming for a young lady," Teja says.

[fiery_ring]

"No, but she could make my life difficult."

[ostro_goth]

"But she has not, so far?" Teja says.

[fiery_ring]

"Not in this respect."

[ostro_goth]

"Then why should she later, unless you give her more to hurl at you?" Teja says.

[fiery_ring]

"Because she despises me?"

[ostro_goth]

"But has she any reason to dislike you even more?" Teja asks.

[fiery_ring]

"Not today, but it doesn't take much."

[ostro_goth]

"And then, you think, she might bring that down on you?" Teja asks.

[fiery_ring]

"Possibly." Carlotta says. "I'll work it out if it happens."

[ostro_goth]

"Yes," Teja says. "So far, we are chasing ghosts."

[fiery_ring]

"Not really." Carlotta says. "Angela tries to make my life difficult on a daily basis. She's jealous of me."

[ostro_goth]

"Why?" Teja asks.

[fiery_ring]

"Because she can't stand the fact that I'm, in her eyes, 'common', but still have more friends in the form than she does. The only person she has is Alison."

[ostro_goth]

Teja shakes his head. "How long do you still have in school?" he asks.

[fiery_ring]

"Well, I could technically walk out on my eighteenth birthday, but it's the spring term now and I intend to stay until summer next year. Then I'm going to join a circus in time for the summer season."

[ostro_goth]

"Is your school officially done, then?" Teja says.

[fiery_ring]

"By next summer, yes." Carlotta says. "Unless I was to go to university."

[ostro_goth]

"We agreed you don't have to do that," Teja says.

[fiery_ring]

Carlotta nods.

"The word at school is that I will." she says. "Not among the staff, just among the girls. I don't like to lie, but I can't trust girls like Angela not to let slip to my parents, so the other girls are helping keep it up."

[ostro_goth]

"Good," Teja says. "You are going about this very wisely."

[fiery_ring]

"I will at some point have to discuss it all with my father." Carlotta acknowledges.

[ostro_goth]

"That is only honourable," Teja agreed.

[fiery_ring]

"I'm just going to leave it as long as possible so that he has minimal time to stop me."

[ostro_goth]

"Depending on circumstances, you might go with his approval," Teja says. "That would be better."
