99 is headed back to her world for a while.

However, she's not about to leave without first writing a quick note:

Jim -

It's time for me to go back. As much as I wish I could keep putting this off

I'm not sure when I'll be able to return, but something tells me it's better to remain optimistic about my door showing up again.

She folds the note in half, signs his name on the front, and leaves it on the bar, where it promptly disappears.

She's not expecting to be intercepted on her way to her door, but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

The Bar must like romance. Or drama. Or both.

Because who should arrive at the bar at the exact right moment to get a note. And turn to look at the door. And see Laura.

"Laura!" He hurries to catch her.

Or it may just enjoy making things infinitely harder for her. Who knows?

She closes her eyes, her back still turned until the moment he reaches her.

"Hi."

"I...I got your note." Is he nervous? This man of the world, of the galaxy, nervous? Maybe. "I just wanted to say goodbye."

"I'm sorry."

Even she doesn't know why she's apologizing; somehow, it's only that she feels she needs to.

"For wanting to get back home? You don't need to apologize for that." Maybe some would say that she could have said goodbye in person, but he doesn't think Laura needs to apologize for that, either. He did worse in his youth.

"There are things I need to take care of," she says.

The sadness on her face is evident, though; she tries to force a smile.

"I know. And I won't keep you." He will, however, hug her. "I'll be here."

She hides her face against his shoulder.

"Well, there's my reason to come back right there."

He smiles - a bit sadly, but it's still the sort of smile that says how much he's come to care for her. "Then go before the door goes." But not before a kiss, soft but lingering.

She kisses him soundly, lifting a hand to touch his cheek for another beat.

"I'll be back."

She won't look back as she heads toward her door.

Jim lets her go. He's not one for long goodbyes. He's had too many goodbyes in his life to ever let to last too long.

He decides to go riding. And not think about all the feelings.
