There is a Bright Shiner out on the frozen-over lake, this evening. He balances on the balls of his feet, his bare feet, as if seeking to come into as little contact with the thick lake ice as possible (though otherwise the cold of the January evening doesn't seem to touch him).
He's currently considering the merits of ice-fishing.

"Aren't you cold?"
no subject
"No, not really. Just trying to decide whether I'd have any luck catching some supper if I broke the ice." Which is at least four feet deep, at this point of the winter.
no subject
"Christ, if you're that desperate for food, I'll buy you something inside."
no subject
It's the same urge that sends him out hunting demon bunnies and deer in the forest.

"That offer of free food still open?"

But, as they head back towards the warmth of the bar, he offers, "In return, how about I buy you something hot to drink."
no subject
"Sounds like a good trade."

The individual on the ice catches his attention, mostly because he seems unnaturally immune to the cold, and Zack tentatively makes his way over.
"Hello?"
no subject
Even if he were to break the ice and go fishing, would the fish be awake enough to take the bait?
(ooc: Sorry for the delay. Had already gone to bed when you tagged.)
no subject
"Who are you?" he asks curiously, and then in an attempt to be polite, "I'm... Zack."
(ooc: sorry for this delay, I went and did the same thing...)
no subject
"What brings you out on this rather disgustingly cold, pseudo-Scottish night?"
no subject
no subject
Because he knows there isn't one.
no subject
"I don't understand... but I'd appreciate it, if you could tell me some of how it works."
no subject
He gestures as he speaks, indicating. "On the further side of the lake, you can see a place where the lake is unfrozen, and the ground has no snow? That is a piece of the Caribbean Sea, an inlet, connected to that body of water in one of the many versions of Earth that are connected to the bar."
"Beyond the lake and forest is a mountain. It is the most recent addition to the outside area of the bar, made by one of the gods who spends time here. He wanted to go skiing, I suppose, or do some other winter sport, since it always has snow on it, no matter what season the lake area reflects at the time."
"That's the long version," he grins. "The short version as to how it works: magic."

"Thinking deeply, friend?" he calls easily across the ice.
no subject
"Wondering whether ice-fishing is a sport I might take up, until the sun comes back."
no subject
no subject
"I had thought to ask the Bar for a pole-and-line, such as I have seen used so one does not have to get wet to get their fish."
no subject
The lack of capitals is intentional, but likely not audible. (The word he uses in Westron means "grown male," rather than "grown male human," or merely "human".)
"They are likely sleepy and slow to respond, in this weather."
no subject
As he finishes the second circuit, he strikes his heel upon the ice with great force, causing a great cracking sound from beneath his foot.
With great care, Yrael steps on the cracked circle of ice and presses upon it until it submerges into the water below, and slides under the unbroken shelf of ice to its side.
"But then, situations where I absolutely must be patient are rare," he says, cheerfully.
no subject
"What is it that you are?" he asks, crossing over the ice with the easy grace of someone who has spent long years in a place with deeply cold winters.
