Anna has cake.

This is good.

Anna has a book entitled Fifty Nifty Science Fair Projects.

This is also good.

Anna has a pad for taking notes and writing down Ideas.

This, too, good.

Anna has forgotten to get a pencil.

This is . . . not good.

Anna turns around.

"Yes. They're very useful if you want to write things down."

Beat.

"I'm Anna."

"Yeah, I write things in mine, too."

Jools flips open to a page with very detailed instructions on how to make tea.

"Oh, uhm. I'm Jools."

He smiles widely.

"It's very nice to meet you, Jools," Anna says.

She leans forward to read the tea-making instuctions.

"Are you just learning about tea?"

"Oh, no," Jools says, shaking his head. "Guppy's also helping me get registered with a GP. It's kinda hard."

"Who's Guppy? And what's a GP?"

Details, please.

"He's that nice doctor here," Jools says.

Then he shrugs. "And... I don't know."

Anna makes a mental note: There is a nice doctor. Names after a fish.

"Then why do you want to register with one?"

Jools thinks about that.

"Because Guppy said I should."

He scratches his head.

"Oh."

Anna considers this.

"Well, okay, then."

If Guppy is a doctor, he's probably smart. And smart people have good ideas, right?

"Yes," Jools agrees. "Exactly."

Yeah, he has no idea what this conversation is about any more.

Neither does Anna!

Something they have in common.

Then again, Anna never met a segue she needed.

"I am going to do a science fair project."

Only difference is Jools never knows what's going on.

"Oh, what's that?" he asks.

"Well, we have a science fair every year at school. And everyone gets to do a project, where you come up with an experiment and have a theory and do tests and then you create a display all about that you learned and we put all the displays on top of the tables in the cafeteria and if you have the best one, you get a ribbon. Oh, and you have to write a report, too.

"So I have to figure out what kind of experiment I want to do this year."
