Anna has cake.

This is good.

Anna has a book entitled Fifty Nifty Science Fair Projects.

This is also good.

Anna has a pad for taking notes and writing down Ideas.

This, too, good.

Anna has forgotten to get a pencil.

This is . . . not good.

"I'm good." He grins. "My sister loved your cookies."

"Oh, good," says Anna.

"I'm glad she liked them.

"Thank you for buying some."

"No prob. She was all set to be mad at me for spending so much, 'til I told her they were like Pathfinder cookies but with chocolate. Then I wasn't sure I'd got enough after all."

Since he'd had difficulty seeing over the armful of boxes he did in fact buy, this was probably not an actual concern.

"You got an awful lot, so it was probably enough," Anna says, thinking back.

"Yeah, she said it was fine."

It's good to know your sister's weak points.

"Do you get stuff if you sell enough cookies? I know the Network Pathfinders do."

"Yeah. There are prizes. And a patch for our sash.

"Plus we raise money for our troop, and then we get to do fun stuff."

The mun can't think of a coherent 'software patch' joke just now, but is assured one is in there somewhere.

"What prize did you get?"

"I don't know yet," Anna says.

"Oh. Well, what kinds of prizes do they have?"

"T-shirts. And a stuffed animal. And bandanas. And stuff like that."

He nods; doesn't sound too different from what he's heard of his world's version.

"Well, I hope you get something good!"

"Thank you."

"So, what're you up to?"

"I am figuring out what I want to do for this year's science fair."

"Oh, cool! What've you got so far?"

She holds up the book.

"I'm looking for ideas."

"What kind of stuff do they have?"

Anna opens the book at random.

"Magnets."

Flip.

"And beans."

Enzo draws back slightly.

"Dude, if you're gonna do magnets, wait 'til I'm gone."

"Okay," says Anna.

"I'm just reading tonight."

"Okay," he says, relaxing. "Just making sure. Magnets're kinda lethal to sprites."

"Oh," says Anna.

"Well, I'll let you know if I pick magnets, then."

"Thanks." Reassured, he peers at her book. "What do you do with them, anyway?"
