Anna has a book entitled Fifty Nifty Science Fair Projects.

This is also good.

Anna has a pad for taking notes and writing down Ideas.

This, too, good.

Anna has forgotten to get a pencil.

This is . . . not good.

"Oh, it's not hard at all to talk to the rats," Anna says.

"It's just hard to get them to talk back."

There's a difference.

"Converse with, then," he says, unworried.

Anna thinks for a moment, and then says, "Does that mean talk back and forth with?"

"Exactly," Nick says, grinning. "Like we're doing now."

"Cool.

"We are conversing.

"And drinking hot chocolate."

[wordofa_sayre]

"So we are," he agrees, and takes a drink of his own.
