Duo is sitting on the floor by the fireplace, print outs stacked in careful piles all around him. It's not usual for a digital-age kinda guy like him to have so much paper, but that's what legal cases get you. (It's harder to hack paper.)
He's also eating Meat On A Stick™. It's probably beef teriyaki, if you're feeling generous.

Happily for Puck, (and probably for Duo's future life status) he does not yell this for the whole bar to hear.

"'Love' is such a terribly strong word."

"And denial ain't just a river in Egypt."
no subject
"I thought it was the Nile."
He enunciates crisply, to be helpful.
no subject
"Uh-huh."
He continues staring at Puck, as if this will help him understand.
It hasn't worked yet, but he keeps trying!

"So that's all, then?"

It's time for an interlude of tinkly barrel-organ music!

Where did that barrel organ come from? Was it always there?
And Duo will pay Trowa back for deserting him in his hour of need.

He glares at Duo.
"You see what comes of imagining yourself knowledgeable?"
no subject
That would be something that might happen around here, you can't say it isn't.

"How perfectly dreadful."

She's very... colorful.
She's also smiling slightly. (She must have come from somewhere, right? Maybe they just didn't notice her before.)
no subject
(Because he's Trowa, this means 'eavesdropping and taking mental notes.')

"Hullo, Mistress Edel," he says woodenly.
"How delightful to see you again."
no subject
"And yet, when it is dark, even the smallest flame can fill the eyes, or be seen for miles."
"Hello, Puck. Hello, Duo."

A smile.
"But that I believe we have spoken of before. More or less."
no subject
"Love can shine very brightly," agrees Edel, who as Drosselmeyer's puppet is pretty much contractually obliged to believe things like this. (According to Drosselmeyer, tragic doomed love shines the brightest of all!)

Person may be generous, but Duo is already going out on a limb here.
no subject
"Only briefly, but this being the meeting-place of souls that it is, it should hardly come as a surprise. How do you fare this even, mistress?" The latter is directed, loudly, at Edel.

The next time Duo and Puck happen to blink or look away at the same time: she's gone.
