Michael pushes through the front door, the sword in her hand vanishing at the moment she registers her change in locale.

It takes another moment for her to push her windblown hair out of her face and tame the too-bright green of her eyes. Then, of course, she moves to the bar for coffee and a newspaper.

It is rather unfortunate that, once she settles down to fill out the crossword, her pen has a tendency to push right through the paper.

Temper will do that.

Ah, well.

"Like messenger stuff?"

Or ... whatever special occasions are for angels.

"On occasion."

She does not quite smile.

"On other occasions public transportation works just fine. Or a bike."

"You don't have a car?"

There's really no reason why Michael should have a car. It just seems like something an angel would have. In Elle's mind.

She'll have to ask Castiel some time.

"No," Michael says, mouth quirking at one corner.

"It would be bad for my image."

"Your... being an angel image?"

Which bicycles and public transport is okay for?

Michael shakes her head.

"The image of humanity I'm trying to cultivate."

She sits up a little, revealing a little more of her too-skinny frame.

It makes it easier to see her T-shirt, which has a cracked-open fortune cookie on it. The fortune reads 'You have just eaten poison'.

It's kind of an illustrative example.

Elle doesn't snicker, but it's close.

"Why do you have to look human?"

"Because anyone walking the earth acting like an angel is going to be labeled crazy?"

Michael shrugs.

"In this day and age, anyway. And if people actually did believe -- then I'd have no time or space to get my work done."

"Don't you have some -"

Elle knows 'heaven' would be a good guess for the right word here. But it's not what she says.

"- angel-place to go to?"

"Oh, I'm there, too."

Michael can exist in more than one place and time.

It's handy.

"But it's not particularly busy, I guess you'd say. Or interesting."

"And... Earth is interesting"

It's only curious. Of course Michale could be from some place with humans but not Earth. Elle's not sure if that would make it more interesting.

"I like the people, if not the politics."

The Fae are also obnoxious.

"You don't find Earth interesting?"

"I haven't been to anything else."

Elle doesn't have Michael's measure of comparison.

"You've been here."

Michael flicks her fingers at Milliways proper.

"How does it compare?"

Pause.

"It's not that different."

When it comes to 'interesting,' at least.

"But I don't have to pretend I'm something else here, either."

"It takes all kinds, I guess."

She spreads out her hands, palms down.

"Maybe it would be different if it bothered me. Does it bother you?"

It takes Elle a long moment to figure out what Michael is asking.

"Pretending?"

Michael raises both eyebrows.

"And whether or not you have to do it."

"It's not the same. People would see I'm not just crazy."

Not just, anyway. And whatever Michael can actually show off, she hasn't done it yet. But no one needs to take Elle's word for it.

"And I like what I am."

it's the only thing about me that's-

"I like what I am, too," Michael says easily.

"It has nothing to do with whether I pretend or not."

"People wouldn't not like you for it."

Elle's... guessing.

Michael flicks her fingers again.

"You'd be surprised."

As much as she tries to avoid it, Elle can be surprised a lot.

(This, in itself, isn't surprising.)

"I don't care if they don't like it," she answers, instead.

"I care if I - have to do something about it."
