The ball seems to be closer and yet farther every day. Jane has not gone looking for the Bar but she's found it today as she's considering something she wrote a while ago.
Her thoughts keep straying to Mister Lefroy but he has returned to London and may not come back for the ball.
It is best to move on and do as her mother would wish even though she doesn't wish to. In the end, it takes her rather longer to find a seat as her thoughts are not truly in Milliways.

Jane would like to do more but she can't if Noriko doesn't wish her to so she stands up to create some space.

Jane dislikes this but she respects Noriko's wish to be left alone so she gathers her papers and tea and let's Noriko have the space near the table to herself.

It just all around sucks that she can't seem to not hurt people, and there's the forced detox to deal with--she's bound, she can't get the drugs she needs from the bar or, as far as she knows, anyone in it. (Clearly she hasn't meet Ramon yet.)
