If you catch the bartender while he's stealing a minute or two to himself, you may notice the boy has several books piled up behind the Bar, one of them open. He also has some papers he's writing on. He also has a couple fading bruises and scratches and a split lip.

"Helping with the bellows. Keeping the fire hot." No, Bonzo doesn't know of any skill he has crafting metal.

He smiles a little and nods. "I've done that before, back at the holt," he remembers with a faintly nostalgic look. "With Fade." He misses Fade a little, sometimes. Which is why he always goes to visit.

Bonzo's face registers recognition at the mention of Fade's name. "He made that dagger you gave me, right?" Bonzo very strongly thinks this is the case, at least, so this is more an 'Is my memory on?' question than anything. This is only the third mention of Fade he's heard after all, so he wants to make sure there's not another person with a similar name involved.

Tavi blinks a few times, rapidly. And then, with a bit of a bright smile he confirms, "He's the best metalcrafter and smith I know. He's been my friend for years."

So truthfully, he has no idea what the bloody crows Bonzo's talking about. But he's not actually about to show that at the moment. Not until he knows more about the situation. He's too much of a Cursor already to show the hole in his knowledge.

"Working those bellows is harder work than I realized."

Tavi nods. "You don't realize entirely just why smiths are all so strong, even the ones who aren't also earthcrafters. But it's hot, hard work."

"Yeah. Those hammer he uses can't be light, either. Well...I guess I'll be building up some actual muscles." Even in training for the Battle Room, the exercise routines hadn't been entirely strength-oriented. Yes, strength was important, but speed and endurance were more the order of the day, as was agility. Brute strength just wasn't needed.

Tavi flashes a quick, cheeky grin. "Let me know what you think of honest work, then," he says rather impertinently.

Farm boy, through and through. ...When he's not being strangely aristocratic.

That comment gets a roll of the eyes. "Will do." On one level, Bonzo doesn't like his time at Battle School (not to mention his military service) being put down. On the other hand, he's not about to drag his past record into this...it's lousy enough as it is, you know? And besides, the grin suggests that an insult was not intended, so he's not going to take the comment as one.
