"No, see--" Duo waves his spoon at River for emphasis, and then hastily lowers it before ice cream drips onto the couch. "Real cherries are acceptable. Maraschino cherries are an abomination. It's an important distinction!"

River eats a sprinkle with her fingers, looking dubious. "It's a paradigmatic rewriting," she informs him. "Got extra sugar."

So, to sum up: River and Duo have a couch shared between them, a fairly epic ice cream sundae apiece, and a lot of precisely constructed paper airplanes strewn around them. (Some have physics equations written on them.) Come say hi!

[OOC: Two muns, two characters! Feel free to tag them together, or to arrange your timing so one of them just went back to the bar or something.]

"Fructose and sucrose add variety to the diet," River says piously, albeit with dubious accuracy.

And eats her illustrative spoonful, because mmmmm sundae.

"You'll probably get cancer.

"Space cancer."

It's always worse if it's from space.

What, Duo. What!

River, because she is being good, doesn't peg a cherry at him. Instead, she informs him, "Carcinogens are not an optimal sundae ingredient."

"Okay, probably not. But seriously, they used to have these crazy health kicks on Earth. Everything was either gonna give you cancer, or prevent you have having a heart attack. Or both. Bet fad diets didn't make it into your history books."

Clearly his universe is inferior. :(

"Sometimes," River says sagely, "people are dumb."

"Oh, does this come as a surprise to you or something?" Duo says before taking a big bite of ice cream.

"I mean, you've met people before, right?"

"I explain things."

Aren't the dumb people lucky to have River Tam around!

"I haven't forgotten," Duo says with all due deference (and his mouth full). He has been on the other side of River's explanations more than once.

River is glad that Duo appreciates her properly! What would he do without her as a force of logic and common sense?

Smugly, she has some more ice cream. See, that's settled.

He gives her a fond look. He knows what that expression means.

"So, how's the ship?"

River has to swallow a mouthful of sundae before she answers. mmm hot fudge.

"She's flyin'."

This seems, from the affectionate tone, to mean things are going pretty well.

"Naomi's trying to decorate."

Naomi is a toddler. This means there are a lot of bits of scribbly paper pasted around at knee height.

"Ahhh, yes. Does she have a future as an interior decorator?" Duo has a certain amount of experience being around young kids. It's been a while, but he still remembers, and misses it, to be honest.

"She favors glitter." It's not quite clear if River means that as a pro or a con.

"Better'n Jayne," she adds.

This may or may not be unfair to Jayne, depending on your opinion of Wall-O'-Weaponry Chic.

How about glittery weapons? Clearly they should team up.

"Glitter has its place." Though preferably not all over him. Not that he's naming any names Raven. And Lilly.

Jayne would say that Vera is a fine lady and deserves to be taken more seriously than that!

Jayne is not always a reliable judge of these things.

"Got lots," River agrees, gratified.

She approves of it lazily rather than making any particular effort at glitter evangelizing, however. Mostly.

Actually, Duo would probably agree, if he ever made Vera's acquaintance. He has a deep respect for heavy ordnance.

"What, like, on you?" He edges away from River exaggeratedly.

Vera is a noble lady, with almost-but-not-quite hull-piercing capabilities. But she's also Jayne's.

So, yeah.

"It's a mystery," says River with excessive cheer, and picks at another sprinkle.

"So long as it stays a mystery. My masculine mystique gets destroyed when I'm shedding glitter up and down the hallways."

Against his will, anyway.
