There is a pain in Rei's side and she does not enjoy it.
The fact she has not left the bar since she entered it is a metaphorical thorn into her side, but it has everything in common with the quite real pain to be found there.
Rei never gives indication of it, really. The fact her heart has hurt for her entire life is enough to have built a masking pain tolerance. But its presence grows a little more nagging each day. It lines the sand of her time, of which she is running out.
The girl with pain, the girl with a figurative mask, the girl who is ignoring it all. To aide with this, as she sits by the fireplace, her attention is placed upon the observatory window, as it has been for a significant period of time. She is trying to memorize a constantly changing view. This is counter-productive, but occasionally she indulges.
