William hasn't found any more doors to Milliways for about a week and he hasn't quite been looking, it was too confusing with good food, nice people and then Wade.

This morning he's only thinking up about saddling up Les and checking the fences now that Mark's off to school. The little healing vial is tucked away in his hiding place alongside the drawing of his Pa that Wade did since he's not sure what to do with it.

When the door to the tack room opens onto the Bar, he stares at it for a while before walking up to the counter and asking for some coffee. He's not quite sure how he feels about being here, but he's here now.

"You're probably better for it," Albus says wisely. "I don't speak from experience or anything, but um. It can really mess you up, killing someone."

He's seen the way his parents sometimes get that haunted look on their faces when they think no one's looking.

"Yeah, probably. Why are you wearing robes? Never seen anything like that before,"

Maybe talking about something else will help.

To be honest, Albus is kind of glad for the subject change too.

"Oh - um. It's sort of my school uniform. And in my world, wizards commonly wear robes like these too."

"You're a wizard? What kind of stuff can you do?"

Albus nods.

"Er. Lots of things? I mean, that's sort of a really general question."

He shrugs, laughing a little.

"I've never met a wizard before, so I don't know where to start. Do you like studying magic?"

"Yeah," Albus says. "It's - um. I mean, it's a bit difficult sometimes, but it's brilliant."

"What kinds of things are you best at doing?"

"Actually, I've got a great interest in history," Albus admits. "It probably sounds really stupid ..."

Particularly when most people think the actual magicking is the greatest part of Hogwarts, but.

"I mean - I'm - I can do all my other subjects quite well, it's just. I really like learning about wizards from the past, and what they've done to make the world what it is today. You know?"

He all but blushes when he finishes. Albus bets this boy, who resembles him in some ways, probably thinks he's the ultimate nerd now.

William nods and takes a drink of coffee,

"Sort of, its nice to know why things happen so they don't happen again."

"Yeah. That's a part of it. It's also sort of brilliant to figure out why people do the things they do," Albus says, picking at his breakfast absent-mindedly.

"I'd wanted to learn about Muggle history too. Only, our Muggle Studies course is a bit ... basic." He clears his throat. "Erm. Muggles are people who are non-magical."

"Must be a lot of wizards if you don't learn much about other folks."

"Well, it's not terribly important to some wizards," Albus explains. "The Wizarding World is ... sort of kept separate from the Muggle World."

Yes, even still.

Most of the muggle world isn't exactly ready for something like magic and wizards beyond what they read in storybooks and see in films.

"Most muggles don't know about the Wizarding World."

"Oh, but you do?"

That seems smart of Albus.

"Well. Er - I'm not a muggle," Albus reminds him. "And - um. My dad actually grew up in the muggle world until he went to Hogwarts, the school I go to. So I know a bit about muggles."

And it's clear he finds them fascinating.

"So you study as much history as you can find?"

Albus nods.

"Yeah. My dad tells me I'm a lot like my aunt Hermione. I - um. Spend a lot of my time in libraries."

The last bit is more or less mumbled in a vaguely embarrassed manner.

"You've got one nearby? I mean I like reading but books cost money."

"There's one at my school," he replies.

And yes.

When he's home for the holidays, he tends to hole himself up in the their house-hold library.

"Oh! - Um. D'you know about the library here, maybe? I've never been, but ... it doesn't cost anything."

"No, might go look. Though don't read anything that fancy just dime novels,"

Albus probably wouldn't be impressed that he can't get to school very often.

Well. So long as he wanted to learn, Albus wouldn't judge him.

Anyway, he hasn't got very many judgmental bones in his body.

He leaves the judging to James.

"Er. Dime novels?"

(OOC: Tiwa in my head says she'll thwap James anytime he gets judgmental.)

"Yeah, detective stories and stuff like that."

[ooc: loool. Looks like he'll be getting thwapped a few times, then.]

"Oh - yeah? Those sound brilliant. I really enjoy a good detective story," says Albus enthusiastically.

And he means it too.

Stories where people have to solve things without the use of magic tend to be really, really interesting. And impressive.

"Bar, could we have the newest of the New York Detective and the Honest Sheriff? The ones out West aren't really that close to how things are but they're good reads,"

A couple of slim books appear in front of them.

Albus leans forward a little, sliding his plate of cold toast aside.

In the name of books.

With the excitement of a child.

"Who writes these?"
