[OOM: Truth finds us in dreams.]
William's lost track of what time it is since he's been riding in a storm that blew up out of nowhere. Checking the fences shouldn't take this long and he needs to get home.
When he sees a light through the darkness, he moves to a canter before stopping and staring at the Milliways' stable. This isn't where he's meant to be and he was thinking about Milliways but he's not sure about ending up this way.
The storm seems to have followed him too so there's wind and snow and rain blowing as he looks for where to dismount.
It doesn't take too long to get his horse in the stables and then comes in through the back door and heads to the Bar, where he gets hot coffee and a fortune.
You are never selfish with your advice or your help. The words seems nice but he's not sure what to do with it so sets it down on the counter.

Well, he may fret a bit over things he would rather be doing on the ship. Oh well.
But at least he does not have to be out in such a blizzard- but he certainly has sympathy for those who do.
"... I still do wonder about the people who decided it should be Scotland out back, there." As he steps up to the bar to get a cup of tea for himself.

"That's where its meant to be? Couldn't tell where Arizona stopped durin' that storm."

"The grounds of a school that many people here go to, I've heard. One that teaches magic to witches and wizards. A few of them managed to recreate the lake and grounds, so that we would actually have a place, outside that back door."

Luna made a mess of his table but she was nice.

"I think I would have picked some place a bit warmer, but... I think I can understand wanting a place that was familiar and comforting."

Rain's rare enough in Arizona to be glad of it.

"As well as something hot to drink."

Tea may be Wellard's first choice- but the tea (and coffee) here is far better than anything he ever was able to get at sea.
"I would add in the food as well. At least for when you're at sea. There's only so much fresh food a ship can carry."

None of the books he's read ever talk about what sailors eat other than hardtack.
no subject
William is totally correct about the hardtack, however.

Milliways may have spoiled Wellard. Just a bit.

She's been in and out, bringing the animals in, getting things in order, checking against leaks and breaches and making sure her pregnant Brahmin isn't agitated. Her hat's jammed snug on her head with her kerchief tied under her chin to boot (to keep her ears warm), but on a glance up she catches sight of him out in the mess. She double-checks the door is clear so he can get in with his mount.
"Hellfire! William, y'could have picked a better day to come 'round the stable!" she grins.

"Wasn't plannin' on it."

He looks like he's been in the elements longer than just a few minutes.

William feels like it and there's some darkness under his eyes, his dreams haven't made sleeping easy.

She tips her hat off her head and yanks her handkerchief down until it's just around her neck. He's looking a little haggard, and so she steps over to the desk where she'd left her thermos of tea and hands it to him.
no subject
The tea is warm and he takes a long drink, "Thank you."

You're lucky not to catch fever in weather like this when you're of strong stock, let alone if you've got a weak composition.
"You're welcome. I'm only sorry y'brought the bad weather with you."
She winks, just gently teasing him.
"Is your mount in need of a dry stall?"
no subject
Writing that note took longer than he expected and Les bumps his shoulder and William digs for the carrot in his pocket.
no subject
"That would be a real good thing -- real good -- if y'could get some of the medicines they make here back home."
She tugs off one of her gloves and reaches out to touch the horse's cheek, smiling softly.
"What's his name?"
no subject
William pulls out the carrot end and gives it to Les.
no subject
Kate gently strokes Les' cheek, reaching up behind the bridle at his ears where it's no doubt a little itchy.
"I'd wager they could find somethin' here that'd help with your brother. Some of the things I've seen... they're like magic. Fixed up my side faster than I could've dreamed back home."
no subject
He doesn't want to get to hoping too much.
