[OOM: The Race.]

When the door opens and closes on Pavel Chekov today, admitting him to the bar, it's quiet, but he's obviously happy about something, given the bright grin on his face. His hair is still wet, the impossibly bouncy curls sticking up and out in every direction, and his tee shirt is loose and damp from being pulled onto a newly-showered body. The boy looks about as exhausted as it's possible for a fifteen-year-old to look, except for the smile.

In his hand is a piece of paper he keeps looking at; every time he does his grin only brightens.Come ask what he's so happy about.

Ellen's in the process of working some burrs out of Dogmeat's fur when Chekov arrives, but she looks up anyway. "You look pleased with yourself," she says. "Hi, Pavel."

He looks up at Ellen with a little laugh. "Hi, Ellen," he returns. "I am pleased. I ran my race."

"Really?" says Ellen. "Congratulations! How did you do?"

"Really," he confirms, nodding.

He turns the paper around so she can read it, and the same smile he's yet to really lose blooms on his face again. "I won."

"Even more congratulations, then," Ellen says. "That's pretty amazing. Have you ever had to run that distance before? If you told me, I forgot."

He grins brightly, though tiredly. His cheeks are starting to ache like the rest of him, and he wobbles once--he really shouldn't be standing still, but he hasn't yet thought about finding a chair.

"Newer in a race, but I hawe run it before, for practices."

"Then that's kind of incredible," Ellen says. "Do you need to rest, or walk around in circles, or anything? Or get rehydrated? That was a problem for me the first time I had to do a day's walking in the sun."

He eyes a chair. "Sitting down vould probably be wery good," he admits. "I vill get water and...sit. Is a long race, but I needed a shower."

Pavel also probably needs to have food stuffed down his throat, but he'll get to that in a minute on his own. Hopefully. "Zey tell me I am ze youngest cadet to run it."

"You seem to be the youngest cadet to do a lot of things," Ellen says. "People are going to be remembering you for a good while, I think."

"I hope." He looks to the bar and revises his thought of going to get water himself, snagging a waitrat instead as he sits down.

"I vant to be remembered. To be extraordinary."

"Being remembered gets a little weird after a while," Ellen says, "but being extraordinary's probably a pretty good thing. Is there anything in particular you're planning on being really extraordinary at, or do you just mean in general?"

"I am only zat good at physics," he admits. "Theories, math, zings like zat."

"Well, that's a pretty good thing to stand out in," Ellen says. "That kind of thing ends up changing the world, right? So that's a good thing to shoot for."

A small, hovering robot that looks to be cobbled together from several different sources buzzes over to inspect Pavel and his paper.

The little robot gets Chekov to lean to the side as he eyes it. Assuming the thing can recognize script, he sets the paper down so it can be read.

"Hello," he says, wondering as he talks if it has a voice-activation-response system.

".... . .-.. .-.. ---!" it beeps, waving at him. Do you know Morse Code, Pavel?

( HELLO )

He grins, after a moment of blankness before he parses the beeps. It's been a while since he had to use Morse Code, though he knows it; it's an antiquated system by his time, but then a lot of things are. But it's easy enough once his brain kicks back over to recognizing it.

"Hello! You hawe a name, or a designation?"

"... -.- .. - ----," the little robot replies.

"...Skitch?" he asks, making sure he's got it right. Chekov makes a motion to follow him as he falls into a chair, not even pulling his legs up like he normally likes.

His legs hurt a bit. Actually, a lot. He's just gonna...sit for a while. "And who is your creator?"

The little robot nods.

".- .-.. -.-- -..- / ...- .- -. -.-. ."

"Alyx...oh! Yes, I know Alyx." But nine foot robot, this one is not. "I did not know she had two robots; I hawe only been told of one, D0G."

Skitch nods. "-.. --- / -.-- --- ..- / .-- .- -. - / - --- / -- . . - / -.. ----- --.?" he inquires.

( DO YOU WANT TO MEET D0G? )

"Da, I vould like to," he says, and sets the certificate aside. "Should I follow you?"

He'll be a minute if that answer is yes, but he should be okay enough to walk.

Skitch shakes his head, then holds up one finger in a 'hold on a second' gesture before zipping away.

He returns a minute later, with... well, the robot following him doesn't look a thing like a dog, but it has D-0-G painted on its chassis?

Pavel just sort of stares at D0G as he comes back.

"...wow."
