There is a rem sitting on a chair in the Bar with Paper and paint.

She's learning a new craft. Apparently she didn't need the paint for origami but they were still out.

She is botherable.

Light strides past, smirking at Rem's choice of activity.

"It would do you well to rid yourself of a bit of arrogance," said Rem as he passed.

"It would do you well to get a haircut, but I'm not complaining." Light says, sitting down nearby.

Rem laughed.

"You do know that in the end Ryuke WILL kill you," she said, "When he gets tired of you."

She managed to make a crane.

So he says.

"I intend to live a long and successful life, thanks." Light says, ordering a soda. "Chief of police like my father, I hope."

Rem laughed a little, after all she could see his lifespan, but she wouldn't tell him.

"Longer than you, by the sounds of things." Light adds.

She gave him a bit of a bemused look.

"I've been around far longer than when your great grandparents were alive," she said.

She managed to make a small paper elephant from memory.

"Are you around now?" Light asks.

"I still exist, if that is what you mean," she said, "I may be dead to your wold, but I am still here."

"Yes. Keeping yourself busy I see." Light says, with a small smirk.

Inside, he's already wondering how he beats this Shinigami. Interesting that they can be killed at all. Perhaps this one belongs to the second Kira that just wormed its way out of the woodwork? That must mean he will eventually win over that one, otherwise, why would she be so angry with him?

"If you were stuck here, you'd find something to do," she said, "At least it isn't the Shinigmi Realm. I'm sure Ryuke has told you of it."

"Of course I would find something to do." Light says. "Maybe learn all of the world's major languages."

"Or, teach a Hun how to read," said Rem.

"Doesn't sound challenging." Light comments. "I have one of the greatest minds in the world, why would I waste it teaching something so elementary?"

"Because, it is altruistic," said Rem, "And helping out other people is the best use of my time. I am not a low ranking Shinigami, Light."

She's at level four. That's pretty hight up there.

"Anyone could do that." Light says. "If I'm going to teach, I'd teach advanced subjects. Or try and join Security here."

Rem laughed again.

"You care for no one but yourself, do you?" she asked.

"Why? Because I strive to be academically elite? You're wrong. I have plenty of people to care for. Family, friends.

Are you all alone now, Rem?"

"Are you willing to kill those you love to your own ends," she asked, "And No, I am not alone here."

She smiled.

"Why would I kill those I love?" Light says. "That's ridiculous."

Rem shrugged, "Perhaps you still have a shred of love for someone beside yourself."

"You don't know me." Light says. "You just think you do."

Rem grinned.

He's still young.

"So, have you met me yet in your wold?"

"Of course not. Hardly likely to forget you, am I?"

He suspects she has something to do with the second Kira though. He'll know to keep an eye on her...

Rem laughed.

"I guess not," she said.

"Unless I was unable to see you. Since shinigami aren't known to the people of my world, if you're hanging around down there I assume you can't be seen."

Rem laughed.

"Shinigami don't exist in my world, as far as we know." Light says. "So if you can be seen, then we're not from the same world."

She rolled her eye.

"I am simply trying to ascertain when you are from," she said.

"Why?" Light asks. "Think I'll make a mistake so you can kill me?"

Rem looked at him.

"Light, I CAN'T kill you," she said, "Not here, and I can't go back to our world, so not there either. I am just curious is all."

Light leans forward.

"And why should I believe that? How do I know you can't communicate with other Shinigami still alive? How do I know you can't cross dimensions, or worlds? You're a god of sorts, after all."

"I am dead," she said flatly, "dead! I haven't been able to leave this bar in ages. In our, more like your world, I am less than a ghost. Besides I don't think that any other Shinigami have shown themselves here yet."

"Can Shinigami lie, Rem?" Light asks coldly. "You tried to kill me for something I hadn't done. Why should I trust you an inch?"

"Yes we can," she said, "But I have realized that his is my world now."

"Well see that you stay here." Light says, getting up.

....

"Okay," she said shaking her head.

"I'm a top student with a reputation to uphold. The last thing I want is a deranged Death God following me around at home."
