Anyone who finds their way into the garage tonight will find themselves treated to a blast of music. Claudia's hoping to get somewhere on the El Camino, finally, and she brought her MP3 player and its 'work time is now' playlist, to that end.
...But she's not so sure she's going to get much done tonight, now that she's looking at the car again. Usually she's fine jumping headlong into stuff with little to no XP, but there's less to do to a computer than there is to a car.
Thiiiiis is gonna take some Consideration.

Sam's not feeling productive but he hears the music and wanders down the garage,

"Is it broken?"

"I don't know how much of it's just 'been sitting around for God knows how long' and how much of it's actually broken. Thought I had that figured out, but now I'm thinkin' I might need some help."
It's not an easy thing for Claudia to admit, really. but at the same time, she hasn't taken on a car as a project before.

Its a more modern car than he's seen in Ancelstierre but still a car so he rolls up his sleeves and come over,

"It doesn't look too bad."

"I'm just hoping looks aren't deceiving here."
Claudia pops the hood and props it open. "...ew. Clearly this is gonna need an epic clean."

"Its an automobile, of course it does,"

This is the kind of project he likes and Sameth peers under the hood,

"That's rusted out, so you'll need a new one."

"Okay, list time."
Halfway through pulling out her notebook and writing down what she's going to need, she looks up. "--Wait, you guys have cars?"

"In Ancelstierre, I got to look at some and once got in trouble for trying to take one apart."

Claudia grins. "Sweet. Well, I already got the green light from Bar to poke at this one all I want, and I definitely won't say no to some help."

"Good, I could do with a new project."

"And I need one that is not Hunt The Bad Guy. I mean, that one's for a good cause and all, but still." She can only refine her search program so many times, and it's not like she's losing time at home when she's here.
"Besides, if I can get this running, I might see about taking it home - it's about time I had a set of wheels to call my own. Good thing my foster father insisted I learn to drive stick."

"Being able to get around is always a plus especially if you can. I think that was one of the nicest parts of school, we were always heading around for matches,"

In Belisaere, he never seemed to have time for himself unless Ellimere didn't mind his projects too much.

"And then we won't have a car shortage. Handy if I need to go somewhere when everyone's busy." Besides, Artie's touchy about his car (she can't blame him, really, it's a sweet car).
"What kind of matches?"
...Well, the seats need a good vacuuming, but otherwise they don't look too bad. She'll take whatever small breaks she can get at this point.

"I played rugby and cricket at Somersby,"

He's enjoying looking around the engine and disconnecting badly rusted or broken parts to be fixed.

"Huh. Wouldn't have thought there'd be that much sports overlap with Earth."
Okay, stereo is going to need a massive upgrade, but that goes without saying... she gets around to the back, in the name of seeing what kind of space there is for a new sound system (and how weatherproofed it'll have to be), and pauses.
"...the hell? Did someone actually take this thing to Woodstock or something?"

"I know but it seems that its only parts of Earth. Why, what's Woodstock?"

The parts he's collected are carefully set on the floor so he can peer over her shoulder.

In the back of the car (which looks more like somewhere to carry cargo than your typical back seat) is a tie-dye graveyard; Claudia's wondering how the hell she missed it the first time she looked the car over.
"Woodstock was a three-day concert-slash-mud pit. Happened when the car was brand new, according to the stuff I got from Bar."
If she's eyeing the pile of clothes with a little trepidation... well, Sameth's seen where she works, and the kind of stuff they collect. She doesn't want to stick her hand into a potential unknown-Artifact situation. (When she knows what an Artifact is, it's a different story.)

"How did they make those things so many colors?"

It just seems like some disturbing mixtures and the swirling is odd.

"You tie the stuff up with rubber bands or something before you dip it in the dye. I never could master the spirals." Or any sort of restraint with the dye; she tie-dyed things in her Girl Scout days that were still leaking dye in the wash a year later.
She stuffs the notebook back into her tool belt, then fishes around in another pocket; eventually, she smiles and pulls out a pair of purple gloves. "Okay. Now I feel a little more prepared for this part."

"They don't seem to be glowing," That's usually a good sign.

"Which is a good thing, but... we already have a big collection of Woodstock-related Artifacts. And there's no hard and fast way to tell if something is an Artifact or not. Figure it's better not to take the chance, this once."
Once she has the gloves on, she starts pulling the clothes out. None of it looks like it's her style or size, unfortunately - but then again, maybe that's just as well.

"That's annoying. At least with most magic in the Old Kingdom you can feel it."

"I wouldn't be surprised if there is some kind of pattern to it, but I don't know what that'd-- ack!"
Thaaat's a pair of 40-year-old boxers flying across the garage. (She doesn't want to look closely enough to see if they're used.)

Sam moves just in time but gets more of a whiff than he wanted of the boxers,

"Did someone live in this car?"

"I'm not sure I wanna find out, frankly. Bar said it's ownerless now, though."
Anywhere else, it might be funny that she's taking a countertop's word for it.

"It won't hurt for it to have a good clean before doing too much to it."

"Oh, definitely. But enough with the hippie underwear - you saw more of the engine up close and personal than I did, how's it look?"
She's willing to bet they're both more comfortable with engines than the pile of discarded clothes. (Claudia's leaning toward 'throw out the boxers ew ew ew and put the rest in the Lost and Found box.' It's a bar people can live in, there has to be a Lost and Found box.)

"Not too bad, I took out some of the parts that need to be replaced or just have too much rust on them to see how good they are. It seems to be in fairly good condition,"

The pile isn't small but there's still a lot of engine that works.

"Oh, sweet. I'd scour the Warehouse for parts, but that would probably be a spectacularly bad idea for something I want to use out in the world."
Scavenging parts for something like the hologram projector is different. That stays inside with the goo and wasn't made from anything scary anyway.

"I can make or fix most of these. They're not that complicated."

"...Really? Dude, you don't have to go to that kind of trouble."
Not that she really minds! But still.

"I need a new project and I'd like to see it running. If it'd make you feel better, you can put something on my tab or take me for a drive in it when its working,"

That would be nice, to go to another world and not be worried all the time.

"I think we could arrange a drive when it's done." And that way, he'd get to see her world when it's not coming apart at the seams!
"Thanks. There's no real rush, I just want to see if I can pull this off."

"I'm Bound so I have the time and it'd be nice to see how a good car's meant to work."

"Well, with a little luck and planning, you'll be able to."
This might be hard, but it'll be Fun, and it's feeling less impossible now that she's got some help.

"I think that's possible."
