Mardi Gras is celebrated in September in Cardiff, but that doesn't stop Ianto from observing it tonight, since it's coming up elsewhere in the world and all.

"Coffee please." Guppy says, sitting at the bar. "With... lots of caffiene in it."

"Regular, then," says Ianto, looking amused, and fetches one of the pots.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Thanks." Guppy smiles. "Too much to doo, too little time."

[likesthecoat]

"Therefore, coffee," says Ianto as he pours. "Do stupid things with more energy."

He slides over the cup, along with sugar bowl and cream pitcher.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Thank you. I'm currently pulling shifts at home and here, and supervising the construction here, and my youngest doesn't sleep through the night yet." Guppy says, pouring some cream in his coffee. "I'll be glad when we finish the building."

"There's construction going on?"

[guppy_sandhu]

"Yeah, out back. We're building a day room."

[likesthecoat]

"Why?"

The sprawling barroom seems to cover every need the bar could have.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Observation of patients." Guppy says. "A lot of people find the infirmary's hospital environment offputting. We're looking for a way to stop people wandering off with their IVs in."

"It's been a while since I've had a Sazerac," says the painted figure dressed in black tuxedo and top hat, coming up to the bar.

"Now seems like an excellent time to have one," says Ianto. "As you're into the spirit of things."

[mogget_cat]

"So it does and so I am," grins the the man with the painted skull. "The bar is very good at making sure one gets into the spirit of things, especially if one would otherwise forget to do so."

Ianto chuckles and starts putting together the cocktail. "Thereby making you do things you otherwise wouldn't."

[mogget_cat]

"Such as?" the not'Baron Samedi asks, grinning as he rests his elbow on the bar, his chin on his hand.

"Dressing up like Baron Samedi, for one," says Ianto, gesturing to the man.

[mogget_cat]

"But that is the bar's doing, not mine," he points out. "Costume changes are the most common way that the bar seeks to get people into the spirit of things - but I do not know that getting into the spirit of things in that way thereby makes one do things one otherwise wouldn't do."

Ianto furrows his brows, confused. "So you normally dress up like this?"

Joe isn't particularly in the Mardi Gras spirit--he isn't particularly aware of most holidays in the bar, parties overwhelm him very quickly--but he is thirsty after a hard shift of work outside, and since he's earning some money, why not enjoy a drink?

The specials don't ring any bells with him, though.

"What would you recommend?" he asks.

"Coffee," says Ianto promptly. "It's my specialty."

"I'd like coffee, then," he says, hoping it's better than the scorched muddy water they used to serve in the trenches. But then, he's yet to have any food or drink here that wasn't good, even just very simple things.

Ianto pours him a cup. It smells just like coffee, tastes like coffee...if coffee were divine ambrosia.

Yep. He's that good.

Joe has a sip, and is duly impressed.

Nothing can really banish the memory of the bad, bad coffee he's had in his life, but this at least gives a new association for the word.

"I've never had coffee taste like that before," he says.

"Not many people have," Ianto says, pleased.

"It actually has flavor," he says. "It's not familiar, but... I like it."

[likesthecoat]

"Whoever usually makes your coffee must boil it or leave it on the burner too long."

He holds out his hand. "I'm Ianto, by the way."
