[OOM: Many adjectives can be used to describe Parker Lee. "Coy" is pretty far down on the list.]
Parker comes into the Bar with a first-date flush in her cheeks.
It had been a casual thing -- a bite to eat and a movie at Coiner's small theater. And Parker has ascertained three things.
Luke Taylor is a gentleman. And a good kisser. And there will most definitely be a second date.
Parker hums brightly as she pulls the clip out of her hair and settles down at a table.
She'd gotten in late, but she's way too wired to go to bed.

"The boy can kiss."
It had just been good-night on the porch of Summer House.
Still.

"And, ah, which boy would this be?"
(She could guess, but . . . )
no subject
"They call him Hell Squid. He's in a biker gang."
"And, good news! He'll be off probation in six months."

"What can I say? I hang out in Milliways too much."
She makes a show of peering off into the dark corners.
"I wouldn't be surprised if I actually met a hell squid who rides a motorcycle here."
no subject
"However," Meg says. "I don't think that's who you've been kissing.
"The guy from the dance?"
no subject
"Luke."
"He said to tell you and Laura, hi, by the way. And thanks for not thinking he was a creep, or something."
It's safe to say this has scored points in Parker's book.

"I think we, um, threw him a bit, maybe."
Laura and Meg: not the typical girlfriends.
"But, well, good. I'm glad you had a nice time."
no subject
Laura and Meg: awesome girlfriends.
"I did. Dinner. Movie. A lot of talking. During dinner, not the movie."
"We're going out again this weekend."

"Second date plans?"
no subject
Parker smiles.
"I like him."

Parker's been due for a nice boy to like.
"And he's pretty cute, too."
no subject
And he can sing and play guitar. Logic dictates that he does indeed have faults somewhere, but Parker hasn't tripped over any, yet.
"Speaking of cute guys, how's Alain?"
no subject
"And I think starting to realize that he's graduting in four months."
no subject
Parker shudders. The memory is all too close.
"I remember that. It wasn't fun."
no subject
"But, you know, it's all starting to get much less abstract."
no subject
And when that concept becomes less abstract, it really becomes less abstract.
"At least he has constants. The town. His family."
"A delightful fiancee."

"Do you guys have any big plans for summer?"

Because Parker is sure, whatever else it may be, Meg's wedding will the well planned and go off like clockwork.
"Not that I have plans in that direction anytime in the near future myself."

Not that Parker hasn't been tempted once or twice.
