The infirmary day room is starting to take shape. The walls are up, and the team are now working on the roof.

Guppy is currently on the roof not looking down checking that the work fits with the instructions he got off Google, and nailing long bits of wood onto the waterproof membrane.

Around the edge is a safety fence, with a warning sign to stay away from the construction.

Rod looks at him and then puts his hands on his hips "Hello There."

Guppy peeps over the edge oh fuck it's high up.

"Hi." he says, holding on very carefully.

"Do you need any help?"

"Sure, thanks." Guppy says. "Do you know anything about this stuff?"

"Yeah, I work with my dad who's a carpenter when I can't get Gigs.":

"Fantastic. I'm Guppy, not sure if we've met... I meet a lot of people."

He smiels at him; "I'm Rod. And that's cool what do you need me to do first?"

"Pop up here and help me nail these bits of wood onto the roof, then we'll be ready for tiles."

Rod laughs and then climbs up the ladder "Okay, can do" he said softly having no fear of heights

"Thanks." Guppy says, with plenty of fear for heights that he's trying to ignore.

Rod knows that look"Hey want to hold that end of the board while I nail then only I have to look down?"

"It's okay, I don't have to look when the plastic is between the wood and the roof." Guppy says. "Extra function of waterproofing."

"Yeah What are you building anyway?"

"Hey, Guppy," Enzo says, cresting the building's edge on his surfbaud. "What should I do today?"

"Oh hey Enzo, come on up." Guppy says. "Put one of those hard hats on first though."

Technically, Enzo is already up, but he returns to ground level and grabs a hat before proceeds to come properly up, i.e. onto the actual roof.

"Thank you. I realise the irony of making you wear a hard hat when you've been flying around on that thing, but if you were to fall it would be my responsibility." Guppy says, continuing to look down as little as possible.

"We're putting these bits of wood on equally spaced. The roof tiles will go on top."

"Huh. Okay."

Construction in cyberspace—he's poked around plenty of sites he really wasn't supposed to in his time—does not work quite the same way as in Userspace, since computer models don't obey all the same physical rules.

"Like this?" he asks, grabbit a piece of wood and positioning it.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Yep, use the little bit of wood between them so that the spacing is the same." Guppy says, holding the other end of the piece of wood.

[a1enzo]

"Oh, I see," he says, slotting it in.

[guppy_sandhu]

"It's very important that we don't get drift at one end, otherwise the roof will end up wonky. Now we nail the ends to the bits of wood underneath."

Enzo nods and grabs a hammer and a nail. That, at least, he knows how to do. Hammers are pretty straightforward no matter where you come from.

[guppy_sandhu]

Guppy nails his end of wood in, checks the nail has gone through straight and isn't sticking out the side, then looks over to check Enzo's doing it correctly.

"Excellent." he says. "We're going to repeat that the whole way up."

Which they do.
