stalking small scurrying things
through the new spring grass.

Watching Alyx from nearby.
She wanders over.

Dropping the haiku format becasue it's a pain.

The map is covered with notes in half a dozen different colors, marking off roads, towns, riverbeds, and other less identifiable things. At the moment, Alyx is marking off a largish dotted circle smack dab in the center of the map.

Carlotta hovers. Alyx looks busy.

"Hi, are you Alyx?"

She glances up. "Yeah... why, have we met?"

"I don't think so. Demeter just gave me a description. I'm Carlotta." Carlotta says. "She and I were wondering if you might be willing to chat about... um... having babies."

"Oh...kayyyyyy..."

Carlotta looks embarrassed at the reaction.

"Sorry." she says quietly. "You're obviously busy and it's totally the wrong topic to ask a stranger about..."

Yes it is. Teja is unlikely to have heard a song like this before.

It is a very odd song; and Teja actually chuckles at the line with the 'one-anotherhood week'.

He finishes the song with a broad grin. That song always annoyed the hell out of his dad.

Artie grins and starts playing a familiar tune.

As Tom Lehrer impressions go, it's not bad (mainly because Lehrer can't really sing). Knox joins in softly on the chorus. Getting the words wrong.

Artie's singing voice isn't great, but it isn't bad either; he was classically trained, once upon a time.

Soon Knox is laughing. It's been ages since he heard that. And a while since he laughed in here.

It's been a long day back home, all fast marching and fighting and running across the Wasteland in the dark. Sometimes you really just need to be somewhere that isn't a tumbledown desert. Outside behind Milliways is good, even if it means a soggy butt from sitting on the grass (Ellen isn't really used to the whole concept of water from below).

She's never seen a cat hunting before. She's just going to lean forward and watch with her chin in her hands and a fascinated look on her face.

The cat slinks through the grass, belly almost on the ground, eyes fixed on a small shrew grooming its whiskers. He stops and drops down even lower. Nothing moves except the very tip of his tail.

Then--POUNCE.

Oh, that's a fine sight to see. Cat hunting is a lot different than Dogmeat's hunting.

- did it actually work? Or did the shrew escape?

Oh, the shrew is still there, pinned under the cat's paws.

Then the cat moves its paw, the shrew wriggles free, and he pounces again.

Ellen grins at that. Not because she enjoys seeing the shrew suffer, but because it's something, to watch something as unfamiliar as a cat in action.

She's trying to stay quiet. It wouldn't be nice to disrupt the hunt by laughing or calling out.

Escape, skitter, pounce. Escape, skitter pounce. After several iterations of this, the cat finally takes the shrew in his jaws and makes the killing bite.
