Enzo's disinclined to really celebrate his 14^th unbirthday in the midst of a loukanicanthropic* crisis. It's just not a party atmosphere.

Still, he has hit six feet even, and Bar has given him a digital cupcake with a candle in it.

Come say hi and, if you're new to sprites, wonder how he grew an inch since yesterday.

Digital mediums don't support analog growth, one supposes.

"What in the world have you been eating? Stilts?"

Enzo grins. "Not unless someone's been sneaking them into my food."

"Well, then. What's the occasion, besides being needlessly tall?"

"My sort-of-birthday."

[biggerstingers]

"Well a happy sort-of-birthday then."

A beat.

"How sort of?"

[a1enzo]

"We count them differently. This is just when my last birthday was, by this calendar."

[biggerstingers]

"Right, the computer thing again. That would mess with the calendars and getting them to match up pretty hard. I guess that makes this a birthday anniversary."

"Sort-of-birthday works better."

"Is it your birthday?" Guppy asks.

He's looking a little red and hairy.

Actually, it was two days ago; blame the mun.

Enzo gives a sickly grin, which is his idea of acting casual. "Sort of. Dani calls it my unbirthday. We count them different, remember; my real birthday's not 'til next year. It's an upgrade, anyway."

Guppy nods, and tries to give a small smile.

"Well happy unbirthday or upgrade."

"Thanks.

"So.

"How are you, uh... doing?"

Master of subtle interrogation, this one.

"Been better." Guppy admits. "I still don't really know what's going on."

[a1enzo]

"I do, actually. One of the gods found out. It's like werewolfism, but with... hot dogs."

Annd there's Clementine.

With a noisemaker. And a non-digital houseplant which she bribed Bar to give her on seeing the cupcake. This's is her go-to gift for all friend-shaped life forms.

"Starting to creak yet?"

"I think you're confusing me with you."

He eyes the plant. That cannot be for him, can it?

"Watch out. I'll tell Dani I saw you in your Pac-Man sheet." Oh, the plant's for him, all right. It even has a shiny bow! "You can probably get Bar to digitize it for you, but I didn't know how to do that, so..." she thrusts it toward him. "Happy Birthday!"

"Thanks." Well, he supposes it'll class up the dorm room a bit. "We do that ourselves. The laser's upstairs."

She's impressed. "How big's your laser?"

Enzo opens his mouth to reply, then closes it.

Man, why can't Dani pitch him softballs like that?

Enzo is officially probably right about the same height as Bonzo...and Bonzo definitely wasn't six feet at fourteen.

"Ho, Enzo." Beat. "How are you getting so tall so fast?"

"I'm just an early grower."

He assumes that's the meaning of the question; Bonzo ought to know about the upgrade thing by now, and that the end result is going to be Matrix.

Oh, he knows that...though to be fair, he's sort of forgotten Matrix. Either that or he's considering Matrix to be more a side-effect of what happened than anything.

"Yeah...how old are you again, in human terms?" Sprite aging is a bit...quirky.

Oh, they're certainly not the same person anymore, but their code remains the same, which includes things like their height.

"Fourteen."

Bonzo actually looks a bit less confused at that. "Ok, I remember how tall a few of the other commanders were when they graduated. Yeah, you're just a little earlier than a few of them." Beat. "When was your birthday?"

Well, or his lack thereof. Take your pick.

"Looks like two days ago by the local calendar, but I just upgraded. It's not real precise."
