Guppy appears to have recovered from his weinerism, for which many people will probably be grateful...

He's currently sitting on the floor with Fry, who is telling him about his day at nursery school while he plays with his trains.

Silas isn't far off from them, still working on the paint-by-number canvas board, finding the activity strangely calming. He's done with the yellows and lightest oranges, cup of paint-swirled water on the table beside the board as he listens.

"Is he your son?"

"Yes." Guppy says, looking up and smiling. "I'm Guppy, this is Fry, I don't think we've met?"

"Oh--we have not. I am still mostly new here."

He smiles back just barely, laying down his brush for a moment. There's a touch of paint near his jaw, just a little ways off from the tiny series of stitches on his bottom lip below the cupid's bow of his mouth.

"What's your name?" Guppy asks, smiling reassuringly.

"Silas," he answers.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Nice to meet you Silas." Guppy says. "What are you painting?"

Fry ignores him for the moment, making his train go around the track.

"I think it is supposed to be roses," he says, holding out the front of the box, cut out for reference. "The bar gave it to me yesterday."

[guppy_sandhu]

"Are you bound?" Guppy asks.

[un_fantome]

"For now...yes. It was raining yesterday when I came in, and...I suppose she can see somehow." He gestures to his lip, knowing he can't very well hide the stitches.

"Do you need any help with that?" Guppy asks. "Are you hurt anywhere else?"

"They're fine," he says, shaking his head. There's a brace on his left wrist, though it doesn't seem to be prohibiting him from using that hand to paint. "It's...really nothing."

"How old is he?"

"Nearly three." Guppy says.

"In November." Fry informs him.

"Happy early birthday," he says. "My birthday is in December, on Christmas."

"He is doing very well, and growing nicely," Teja says, having observed the two of them for a while where he is sitting with some wax tablets and scrolls.

Commenting on children is no longer strange to him.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Thank you." Guppy says.

"Daddy isn't growing, he's getting smaller." Fry says.

"I'm not getting smaller, you're getting bigger." Guppy says, grinning.

"I was talking about you, Fry," Teja says. "I should have said 'Fry', not he. That was rude of me: - I'm sorry!"

Apologising to small children. Yes. He can do that now.

"What does rude mean?" Fry asks.

"Rude is when you do something that offends other people." Guppy says. "Like making a bad smell or pushing them out the way or saying something that hurts their feelings."

"And talking of you as you were not there might have done just that," Teja adds.

[guppy_sandhu]

Fry, not really offended, doesn't comment on that.

"How are you Teja?" Guppy asks.

[ostro_goth]

"I am content, although autumn does come early, and I dislike the cold dark part of the year," Teja says. "I spent my life in Italy: - September is not meant to be like this!"

[guppy_sandhu]

"Did you go to school? I'm going to school." Fry says.

[ostro_goth]

"I went to school when I was still young," Teja says. "That was long ago."

[guppy_sandhu]

"Did you have to sit on the carpet?" Fry asks.

[ostro_goth]

"No, we sat on stools and chairs and benches," Teja says. "Sometimes, we sat outside, on ledges and low walls. Or we went walking."

[guppy_sandhu]

"We sit on the carpet or at the desk until the lesson is over." Fry says.

"That's right." Guppy says. "And when you want to answer a question you put your hand up."

"Why?"

"Because they might want other children to answer."

"Why ask the question if they don't want me to tell them?"
