You know, one of these decades, Nikola is going to learn how to say no to Helen. He really is.

Not this decade, though.

First it was the anti-virus. He wasted months on that. (And the fuzzy butler still won't take it. Hairy, little brat.)

And now it's this ridiculously impossible weapon. There is simply no way to make the weapon she wants. Not that he's told her this. He has that much tact at least.

Even the prospect of working on it in Milliways can't change the fact that what she wants done cannot be done. He's giving it a shot though.

So there's a sparky vampire taking over one of the larger tables with a smattering of parts and a boxy sort of something that may be a weapon of some sort.

He may be cursing in Serbian under his breath, and he will forever deny wishing that the werewolf were here to offer assistance be a guinea pig.

A glass of wine and the corresponding bottle are set on the corner of the table nearest the one commandeered by Tesla.

"That looks formidable," says the not'cat. It's more likely that he means the project itself, not the completed weapon. "What's its purpose going to be?"

Nikola wordlessly reaches for the glass and drains it. The downside to draining Helen's wine cellar, of course, was that he'd drained her wine cellar.

(He hasn't admitted to Helen what they both know about the complete pointlessness of this particular project. He hasn't admitted it to Heinrich either. Yrael is...different.)

"Nothing."

What it's purpose is meant to be is another matter all together.

"..." Yrael looks at him, as he pours another glass. Pointless isn't something that Nikola does well, or, Yrael would imagine, something that he does happily.

"Then why is it?"

He sits back, arms crossed over his chest, frowning at the weapon.

"Because Helen is quite delusional?"

Despite popular opinion, he is capable of understanding human emotions and motivations, and he knows exactly why Helen is deluding herself in this matter. He doesn't agree with it, but he understands the ideas behind it.

"Ah." And Nikola is humoring Helen's delusions because it's Helen. Of course. It's quite sweet, in it's own way.

Yrael peers at the incomplete weapon. "What keeps it from fulfilling the delusion's purpose for it?"

"Biology," Nikola says. "She wants an electrical impulse to reverse the effects of a biological experiment that altered the subject's DNA. Or rather, to neutralize the alterations. But she doesn't want it powerful enough to terminate the subject."

"That is a... very specific electrical impulse," Yrael says, frowning.

"Though I have every faith in your abilities in that area, I would agree that she is delusional."

[ps_you_look_hot]

"And did I mention we're on a tight schedule?"

Which is the most pressing concern. Especially without having information on what, exactly, has been done to Ashley.

"Of course you are," Yrael replies, handing the full glass of wine to Nikola. "Else, why would you bring the project here?"

Apart from the cellars at the Sanctuary being bereft of wine, of course.

[electro_kinetic]

There's one sparky mutant watching the similarly-powered vampire at his table with a curious look, brushing a hand over the hairstyle she's sporting, hooking her thumbs in her pockets.

"And what's that thing supposed to be?"

"What is it supposed to be, or what is it?"

[electro_kinetic]

"Judging by the number of spare parts I was going to assume that what it is is unfinished or not working," she says, looking at the table and the parts on it.

"But if you feel inclined to elaborate, feel free."

[ps_you_look_hot]

"Even if it were finished, it wouldn't be what it's supposed to be, so finished or not, the distinction is valid."

[electro_kinetic]

"Yes, that would be why I asked what it was supposed to be first." See, she's really not that stupid.

[ps_you_look_hot]

"It's a weapon. Satisfied?" He's really not in the mood to discuss this travesty of a project with just anyone who stops by.

[electro_kinetic]

"No, not really."

Beat. She'll try being nicer.

"You mind if I just sit and watch quietly instead?"

[ps_you_look_hot]

She's welcome to try, of course. He won't.

"You're free to do whatever you like, of course. It's a public building."

[tesla_bot]

Robo is looking back and forth betwen Nikola and his gear on the table. Faces get repated here, technology gets reinvented across timelines, but this just isn't right.

"I've got to be seeing things."

[ps_you_look_hot]

Nikola doesn't even glance up from his work. "Unless there's something wrong with your optical systems, I'd imagine you are."

[tesla_bot]

"OK, that's creepy in ways I wasn't ready for," says Robo.

The voice is maybe a bit more American, but otherwise? Very creepy.

[ps_you_look_hot]

Nikola does glance up then, looking him over thoughtfully. "And what ways would those be?"

[tesla_bot]

"My full, legal, name is Atomic Robo."

(Small) Dramatic pause. Because some things transcend species, timelines, and good taste.

"Tesla."

[ps_you_look_hot]

Nikola's eyebrow slowly creeps upward, and after a moment, he smirks.

"Well, I suppose if the family name is to be carried on, this is the most likely way..."

[tesla_bot]

"I don't know," counters Robo, "You look remarkably well sir."

[ps_you_look_hot]

"My health is excellent, thank you, but I have no immediate plans to reproduce."
