Happy Hour!

Tavi is, perhaps surprisingly, not having anything specific to do today when he walks into the Bar. He settles for a hot bath--the one luxury he cannot quite let go of when he gets a chance, and idly wanders down to the Bar to investigate for some food and drink.

And lo and behold, as he is about to order, a napkin turns up. He glances once, and smiles a little before bowing amusedly at the Bar. "Always happy to serve, m'lady," he says with honest cheerfulness and a little bit of cheeky humor.

(If he vaults over the Bar before consulting the Book o' Drinks for a few ideas, well, he's actually relaxing today.)

With a satisfied smile, he settles back to tend. "Happy Hour's open!" he calls out.

"Huh," says Ellen curiously, peering up at the sign. "The... pumpkinhead ale? Is that beer with actual pumpkin in it?"

Tavi looks up and smiles with a faint, rolling shrug. "Well, it says here that it's a wheat ale with pumpkin spices--claims something about tasting like pie. I'm going to try it, I think. I'm not sure we have pumpkins in Alera."

And Tavi likes trying new things. He discovered chocolate in the Bar. One day, Alera will mysteriously manifest some.

"I've never had one myself," says Ellen, "or much in the way of spices for that matter, either. But it sounds kind of interesting, so I might as well try it."

Nobody said she had to like it, after all.

"Never hurts to try," Tavi agrees--and then pauses. "Well. I suppose if you're allergic it would hurt."

Nonetheless, he reaches for a glass to pour her an ale--uses a 16 oz glass, but the 25oz bottle, which he sets next to her. Some people like more--and if she doesn't want it, well, he can use it to taste before reverting to his cider.

"That shouldn't be a problem," Ellen says. "I don't think I've got any allergies to anything."

At least, she hopes not.

"Interesting smell," she says politely before sipping at it. "huh."

Tilting his head at her, Tavi's expression turns quizzical. After a few moments he eyes the color with curiosity.

"Does it taste like pumpkin pie?" Whatever the crows that may be.

"I wish I knew," Ellen confesses. "I've never had pumpkin before. This stuff is... it's very strange." She looks at the glass and tries it again. "Probably ought to give it a chance, but..."

"But you're not really impressed?" Tavi infers, eying the rest of that bottle thoughtfully. "I might try it just because I'm curious as to what 'pumpkin' tastes like, but I'll keep the opinion in mind."

Even if, in Tavi's experience, give something a chance and there might well be some value that hadn't been noticed. Or just reveals how utterly worthless it is, one or the other.

"It's better than the beer back home," Ellen says. "Not that that's hard, you understand. Most Wasteland beer is pretty awful. I might as well finish what I've got, but only because wasting it would be wrong."

"Hello again," The Fool says lightly as he sits, resting his walking stick on the bar. "You look clean."

"I feel clean," Tavi agrees with a relaxed smile. Even when he was highly irritated at his engineers for building him ridiculously nice private rooms in the command building... well, the private bath was much appreciated.

"Can I get you anything?"

"Love, understanding, a kiss?" he suggests.

Naughty engineers.

Naughty--but utterly loyal and adoring. Funny, that.

Tavi laughs, even though he's flushed slightly. "As to the first, I'm no good as a matchmaker; the second, I've always been told you have to find it for yourself."

After a beat, finally starting to calm his blush, he adds with a wry smile, "As to the third, you'd have to pick someone--because I'm not endangering your health unnecessarily." There is always the danger of Kitai, after all.

"Love doesn't have to always deal with matchmaking, understanding requires other people to understand you and a kiss can just be on the cheek, and is that dangerous?" he says lightly. He is grinning madly at the blush though. It's fun making people blush!

"You haven't met Kitai," Tavi says dryly.

"Maybe she'll give me the kiss, since you're being so reluctant about it." There's a smirk.

I won't presume to speak to that." But Kitai likes to have him all to herself.

He looks thoughtful for just the briefest of instances. "If it's that sort of problem, you could both kiss me! At the same time even."

There's another slight flush. "You'd have to talk to her."

In his experience, Kitai Does What She Wishes--and it helps get around his own deep embarassment. Tavi does not do with the flirt thing. He's kind of constitutionally incapable of it.

The Fool looks around for this mysterious Kitai, but doesn't see anyone. Of course he has no idea what she looks like so he could be looking over her and not even realize it.

"You could give me two kisses and say one is from her?"

"What I said about endangering your life still holds."

Or Tavi's own, for that matter. Kitai is possessive. Not jealous, she just knows where her territory is.

Hmmm... "You're assuming I'm afraid for my life."

"Hardly. I'm afraid for your life," Tavi corrects.
