Here, Ianto, have someone who hasn't been seen in quite a while. Who might be pinking a little at some of the names up there that she's glancing over.

Oh, yes, the modesty of previous ages.

"Er," says Ianto. "Tea, Lady Marian?"

Marian does have the good sense to look more amused rather than offended at the edges of her reaction, and his address. She is a paragon of her age, but five years in Milliways does make even certain scandalous things less markedly shocking.

"Thank you, yes."

"Any particular kind? Black, oolong, herbal? I'm afraid it's been so long I don't remember what you prefer."

"Too long," Marian nodded, settling on to a stool. "Black will be fine for tonight. Honey or brown sugar only, please."

"As the lady likes," says Ianto with a smile, and in a few minutes has a cup of black tea steeping for her, brown sugar cubes in a bowl near at hand.

"How are you?"

"Very glad to be returned, even if time appears to have moved much faster here, than back home," she said, choosing it because she could smile and not lie about it. The rest. Wasn't exactly a light conversation topic for anyone who'd have to hear it. "And, you?"

Ianto smiels a peaceful sort of smile. "Same as ever. Protecting the earth, looking after my teammates, searching for the perfect cup of coffee."

Marian nearly laughed, as it was it made her smile wider. "Any closer to finding it, now?"

"What's in a Chocolate Cake?" asks the baker ignoring the box on the bar stool next to her.

"Citrus vodka and hazelnut liqueur," says Ianto, leaning on the bar. "And then if you're doing it properly, you suck on a sugar-coated lemon slice after you've drunk the shot."

"No chocolate at all?" she asks, frankly disbelieving. "Then how'd it get the name?"

"Presumably because hazelnut tastes like chocolate."

[sunbaked_baker]

"Only to those who aren't paying attention," she smirks. "I'll try it, though, and see how it does."

"Well, they enhance each other," says Ianto as he mixes the shot. "Nutella."

He gives her the shot glass and sprinkles sugar on a lemon slice.

"They can only enhance each other when they're both there. That shot has no chocolate in it." she points out.

Whereas hazelnuts and cocoa are the two main ingredients of Nutella, after sugar and palm oil.

"Mine is not to question why," says Ianto. "I'm just the bartender."

He holds out his hand. "Ianto Jones. Cardiff, Wales, Earth. 200-."

He does actually say a year, but given the timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly-ness of canon, typist is not going to guess.

That makes Rae smile. "Pleased to meet you, Ianto," she replies, shaking his hand. "I'm Rae, New Arcadia, Independencia, Earth. 200-."

She also says a year, but yeah, who knows? There's only so much guessing a mun can do when a canon has an internet equivalent but no cell phones.

"Most people call me Sunshine."

"And why do they call you Sunshine?"

"My step-dad gave me the nickname when I was nine or so," she shrugs, grinning. "It stuck."

It has nothing to do with her affinity for sunlight and the fact that it's the source of her strength as a magic-handler, not at all. >_>

"What do you do when you're not bartending, Ianto?"

"Protector of the Earth," Ianto says casually. She's from an alternate Earth, obviously, so it should be fine. "Mostly from aliens."

She looks mildly surprised. Not at the first part, which is telling, but the second.

"Aliens? As though Earth doesn't have enough problems without outsourcing trouble?"

"Our point exactly," Ianto says. "We have enough troubles without aliens coming along, but they still come and make trouble. Like, a few years ago this race called the Sycoraxx came on Christmas Day and claimed Earth and all its treasures by threatening to kill everyone with a certain blood type.

"Of course, we do have to sometimes protect aliens from Earthlings."

Poor, poor spacewhale.

"It always comes back to blood, it seems," she shakes her head, perhaps misinterpreting the event involving the Sycoraxx.

The idea of protecting aliens from Earthlings gets a nod from her, though. "Even good people can be spiteful, petty jerks if they're scared enough. I suppose having a history of trouble from aliens would lead to that."

Like her world, and the Others.

"Greed will make people do terrible things," says Ianto. "Most people are still in denial about aliens, though. The conspiracy theories are rather brilliant."

"They have people protecting them from aliens, and they don't even know it?" she asks, wondering how that works. Most people aren't stupid (or suicidal) enough to deny the existence of Others, back home.

and I must call it a night

"Of course," says Ianto, surprised at her surprise. "If they're not ready to know about aliens, then they're not ready."

"It's just... strange to think about," she smiles, wry. "Everyone knows about Others, back home. They're not aliens, but it's... similar enough."
