(no subject)

It's small.

It's out of the way.

You may not even see it when you're looking right at it.

Which you probably won't, because its very nature draws your eye away.

But it's there.

High on the wall behind the bar.

There's a crack in the wall.

[ooc: reactions only for now, please -- a Doctor EP is forthcoming. The little bit of light coming out isn't enough to harm anything, but time-travelers (not counting the trip to Milliways) and other especially time-sensitive folks may be affected. For example: a wave of dizziness and/or nausea, hearing a cacophony of overlapping whispered voices, or just a general feeling of unease.]

Under most circumstances, Borgel is the most cheerful old man you could ever meet. Not now. He noticed that crack the moment it showed up and has been giving it the evil eye ever since.

His nephew Melvin is sitting nearby. "What terrifying new thing has shown up this time?" he snarks.

"I'm no expert, sonny boy," says Borgel, "I'm just a tourist. I don't know the first thing about physics or any such gobbledegook. But if that isn't a tear in the fabric of time, space, and the Other, then I'm the son of Zeus."

There's... a smell. An energy-smell. Noxious. The sort Enzo (who can't smell much in Milliways) ought to be able to track easily to its source.

But he's begun to smell a lot of things since the trouble started. And this particular smell is so faint. Isn't it?

Of course it is.

Probably nothing of consequence. He's got enough to worry about already.

Sariel doesn't notice it right away; the Enterprise's time in Earth's past aside, she's no more time travel-inclined than the next humanoid. But she has had

Is something wrong, sir?

experience with dimensions other than her own, hazy memory of events or no. And maybe that's why, just once, when her gaze passes over the bar area, she gets

"--afraid--"
"--You don't know?!--"
"--can you find the--"
"--she's even wilder than you are--"
"--junk footnoterphone messages again--"
"--There's a light up above!--"
"--buzz buzz buzz buzz--"
"--and there they found a giant crack!--"

the briefest single glimpse of what mars the wall behind it.

She can't explain the momentary flash of seemingly sourceless unease she feels just then, nor the equally swift, barely-there suggestion of sound in the air. She doesn't like either though, however soon they pass.

Do the right thing.

Not. at. all.
