John's been worn from stress, unable to sleep. As far as he can tell, Milliways is disintegrating as fast as Rattman's game against Luer in '22, and there's no real telling what will happen next.
That would be okay; he'd prepared -- somewhat -- for that, but he can't make it to his cache in the woods anymore. Using the route through the staff hallway he can avoid the missile-fire, but the earthquake collapsed the cache in on itself, and he's too nervous to try to rebuild it in case of aftershocks (or frostbite). He's taken to wearing one of the guns he took from the cache, just in case. (He has some nutritive bars in his backpack, along with his laptop and notebooks.)
That's why, when he checks his door for the tenth time today, he's shocked as it opens underneath his hand. He rubs his eyes really quickly to make sure he understands what just happened, then rubs his eyes against to push away the tears. He closes the door, goes back to the Bar, and sets down his not-of-his-world gun for safe-keeping.
"And... good luck, okay?" he tells her, hand on her surface, before rushing back to the door and heading out. He can read his notebook to refresh on what was happening in his world after he's there.
Later, he'll realize he should've left notes for his friends. Hindsight is 20/20, right?
[OOC: John will be back, and around more. Just using the switch to jump seasons :).]
