Dean's changing the oil on the Impala. Sam should be in the motel room, working on gathering more background information for their next case.
He can't make himself sit still long enough to focus.
After the sixth circuit of the room, he throws his hands in the air and stalks through the door to Milliways instead.
At least there he can grab better coffee than the cheap vending machine crap, right?

There's a glimmer of the so you're nuts expression, but it fades quickly.
"Yeah, it was ... 'crazy' works, if you factor in that it was crazy even for Milliways. I'm not sure what definition of crazy includes the hinky reality, boiling lake, and army of monsters."

"Hang on, the lake boiled?"
no subject
"It was great."
no subject
"... I'm really glad you're okay," he says, quietly. "I'm sorry I wasn't here."
no subject
Don't be all emo at her.
"That's sweet, Sam," she says with a faint smile.
"Really."
(She will never tell anyone how scared she was towards the end. Riley came the closest to hearing it.)
"But actually ... I kind of did okay for myself."

But ...
"Uh, so, a lot of those monsters? Were actually demons."

If I'd been here, maybe I could have--
Could have done what, exactly? Ruby'd called him on it after he'd failed so miserably with Alistair; he's out of practice.
It's about two seconds later that it hits him.
"-- wait. You mean you -- were you able to --"

Ava's full-on smiling now, she can't help it.
(Her hands may also start to move as she talks.)
"Um, I was going to get out, but I couldn't, and then Sameth grabbed me and was all 'help me fight this big scary demon thing,' so I held off, like, dozens of demons while he cast all these spells. I didn't even get hurt!"

Sam sounds not only surprised, but really, really pleased.

Okay okay calm down.
"I hadn't ever--" She shakes her head. "I mean, it was nuts, people saved my life I'd never even met before. And ... vice versa, I guess."
no subject
"Good for you, Ava. Sounds like you did real good work."
no subject
This is just a weird moment for her.
There's something I never thought I'd hear you say again.
"... Thanks, Sam," she says.
"I mean, I guess it wasn't all fun and games. But we're all here, so."

Her lips quirk.
"Beats the alternative, anyway."

Sam's smile is real, and warm.
"So. Since it sounds like you helped keep the apocalypse from happening here and all, can I buy you a drink?"
no subject
"That sounds fair," Ava decides cheerfully.
"And it gives me a chance to ... choose to not have coffee." She looks a little bleak. "Cleanup has been an ongoing thing."
no subject
Sam looks briefly grim at the thought, then shakes it off and smiles at her again.
"What'll you have?"
no subject
She makes a charade of pondering.
It's still chilly out: this is a total foregone conclusion.
"Cocoa?"
no subject
"Want anything in it?"

(Ava finds it a little erk to give him her back even now, and even considering that it's always been her who's the untrustworthy one in this equation.
Still, she manages fine.)
Ava takes a stool at the bar and glances to Sam, perfectly cheerful.

"Hot chocolate with a shot of Bailey's for Ava, please, and coffee for me?"
