Dean's changing the oil on the Impala. Sam should be in the motel room, working on gathering more background information for their next case.
He can't make himself sit still long enough to focus.
After the sixth circuit of the room, he throws his hands in the air and stalks through the door to Milliways instead.
At least there he can grab better coffee than the cheap vending machine crap, right?

"Missed the whole thing. Dean and I -- we've been on the go for a month or more now, and I just..."
He shrugs, looking a little guilty.
Maybe more than a little.
"... wasn't here."

He picks up his coffee cup and moves closer. "How are things at home?" he asks in a low voice. "Did you ever get that demon issue solved?"
All he knows, from a conversation with Andrew, is that Sam was doing okay. That was months ago.
no subject
"Yeah. That's been dealt with." Sam looks up at him. "Thanks for all you did trying to help, too. I mean it."

Sam looks a little like he's bitten into something sour.
"Probably not gonna do you much good, unless you guys have angels in your world."
no subject
"Probably not the same kind of angels you do, I would guess. We've got records of a race of beings called the Lonely Angels who are quantum-locked beings that feed on peoples' life energy.
But I suspect you mean angels of the more traditional sort."
Call it a hunch. Ianto's very clever.

He sounds startled.

"... son of a bitch."

He looks thoroughly pissed.
"They were here. Sent me and Mac and Dean back in time to Deadwood, South Dakota, in the middle of a smallpox epidemic."

Beat.
"For one thing, we met Calamity Jane. The Calamity Jane."

His knowledge of American history is rudimentary and rather limited to films.
He scribbles down some notes. "that's the longest I've ever heard of. Our other records say eighty years, at most, but the bar being the point of origin--and multiple victims..."
Yeah, kind of mumbling to himself, too.

Sam edges closer, trying to get a look at Ianto's notes.
"Mac and I were together when it happened; Dean came after us. There were a bunch of people who got hit, from what we could gather after we got back, but like I said... it's been a while."

Or it could just be that Dean was stubborn enough to make it happen. Sam's well aware of how determined his brother can be, when it comes to some things.
"So here's the real question: how do you stop them?"
no subject
He points his forefingers at each other. "Have them look at each other."
no subject
"Fair enough. I'll remember that."
no subject
"Now, what about your angels?"
no subject
"My angels?"
There's something extremely dry about the way he says that, for some reason.
"Well, first off, they can be real dicks. But they can also do some serious ass-kicking when it comes to fighting demons, so there's that."

Sam takes a swallow of his drink.
"We're still sorting out the truth from the BS, ourselves, but we're getting there."
no subject
"And the war in heaven, of course."
no subject
"What's your lore say about that?"
