The Doctor is In

Guppy is sitting in a booth in the main bar, with his sign up. In the meantime, he's studying a pile of papers with a look of bewildered concentration and occasional thinking out loud. He's never even heard of half of these 'Building materials', and he can't quite figure out why they weren't in the initial quote...

"What the hell is a 'Replacement turbomatic drill part'?"

He goes onto the next page and runs his finger down the costs.

"'Replacement bag of concrete to compensate for the one your son poured down the drain'..." Beat. "Oh shit, we have concrete down our drain?!"

Pained expression and paperwork.

"Do I need to get Dot to help you?"

"Unblocking the drain or looking at the incomprehensible bill?" Guppy asks. "Hey Enzo."

"Paperwork's more her function."

"That sounds useful." Guppy says. "I've never heard of half this extra stuff they claim to need."

"Who is it, your builders?"

"Yeah, they gave me this list of expenses. If I don't pay up immediately, they're going to pull out of the project. Half finished."

"Would you like me to ask Dot to help? Only she might make them cry."

"I don't know..." Guppy says, worriedly. "I don't want them to disappear, we've already paid them a lot of money and I'm not sure we can pay out again."

"They won't disappear," he says, slightly insulted on her behalf. "She's good at this."

"I believe you, but she's not going to be able to keep an eye on them for months... They haven't even got the second storey on yet."

"Yeah, she's too busy to hang around all the time. She might give them a kick in the pants, though, get things moving."

"Probably worth a shot." Guppy admits. "Thanks Enzo."

He sighs at the paper. "This says they had to replace some cement Fry poured down a drain. I'm disappointed if that's true; Fry knows he's not allowed on site without a grown-up and I've not seen him break that."

"Spam. How do you get cement out of drains?"

"I don't know but it smells expensive. Why on Earth didn't they come and tell me this had happened sooner? Goodness knows how much damage it's caused."

"Are they just BASIC, or do you think they're being DIP switches on purpose?"

"I don't know... they had a good reputation on the website I looked them up on... though I guess they could have written that themselves."

Hmph.

"Sis'll take care of it."

"Thanks Enzo." Guppy shakes his head.

"I'm supposed to look out for the family... I feel like I've let them down."

"You are looking after them. No one ever said you can't have help."

"I might have given thousands of pounds of savings to con artists."

"If you have? I promise Dot will make them cry."

"Thanks. I hope they haven't run off before we get back."
