Charles has been taking advantage of the fact that time stops in Milliways to do work and learn more about the people who pass through here. There's such a variety to the minds and experiences that if he didn't have to finish his editing, he'd probably spend most of his time with his eyes closed and just listening.

As it is, one of his sections isn't going as he'd like and he keeps going back over a certain sentence until he's quite lost track of time.

When he finally gets it right, he looks up and realizes that took a while and allows himself a break, so he leans back in his chair and observes the Bar.

OOC: If you approach him while he's working then he's not mentally listening except quite passively. After he's stopped working, he is actively listening to the conversations and minds around him. Feel free to interrupt him or wait until he's on a break. Please let me know what he'll encounter in your pup's mind. Thank you.

"It is, but I've been learning how to balance and filter what I hear and learn what maybe acted upon and what may not,"

When he was a child, it was much harder because he couldn't always tell what he was supposed to hear and know and what he wasn't.

A moment passes before Alanna can give him so much as a nod. She takes a step back, hand clenched around her sword hilt.

"Have you met other telepaths here?"

"Yes, but not many. Only one other with the same level of power that I have,"

There are people who know of telepaths which he finds surprising and at times nice, but its new to him.

"Who?" It's quiet, but no less firm. "I have my reasons for needing to know."

Faithful looks at Charles; it's fair, his expression seems to say.

"A woman named Jean Grey, she has red hair and a feeling of fire contained. According to her we are the only two who have the same level of telepathic gift,"

That doesn't mean there aren't others but he trusted Jean when she spoke of the two of them in terms of ability.

"Jean Grey," Alanna repeats. It does a lot for his cause that he didn't hesitate to tell her. "You said you could teach me?"

It's almost a grumble. Alanna doesn't like asking for help.

Jean was open about what she is and Charles feels sure she'd understand why he told Alanna,

"Yes, I can. I've already taught one of the Barman here and will teach a young boy here as well. If you'd like, I can ask either of them if they're willing to vouch for me to you."

"No."

She doesn't want anyone else to know that she has information to protect.

"If you wanted to know, you would. And I doubt you'd take the time to teach me how to keep you out." A shrewd look. "Now that I know, I'll be able to tell if you start poking at me."

She doesn't mention her Gift, but he must have felt it. Unfortunately.

He raises an eyebrow at her,

"I don't say things that I don't mean. I would teach you to keep me out because if you can keep me out then you can keep anyone out."

And that is exactly what she wants to hear.

"I believe you," she says, sounding solemn. "When?"

Not now. I've prevented bloodshed. I think I deserve a snack.

"Whenever you wish. I have a fairly stable door and we can find a place that's private and where you feel safe to work,"

As she needs to pick where they go not him.

Alanna thinks.

"Here is fine. I'll leave word for you when I can get away."

Faithful meows in her ear. Loudly.

"Thank you," she adds, stiff and vaguely uncomfortable looking.
