Leo Fudou is hypnotised by the bar's television.

Currently playing is Tentacle of our Waves, in which a pink squid (which, Leo gathers from the scenario playing out, is considered somewhat fetching) is fending off two suitors, one of which is her father, although neither knows it.

There's an abandoned book next to him, with text in an odd language on the front. It seems to have been forgotten about.


Atton Rand is on his back in the rafters, fiddling with a device of some kind.

It looks a bit like a car engine crossed with an accordion, and every so often it splutters out a series of blue sparks and makes a rather unpleasant grinding noise. Atton makes a few shushing sounds every time it does.

"Calm down," he mumbles after a particularly violent spray of sparks (followed, perhaps oddly, by a spray of purple glitter).

"But it's on me. And there were sparks. Those can't be for making it prettier."

"You can't know that," Atton says mournfully.

Beat.

"The sparks aren't intentional."

[presspasskey]

"I can guess, because sparks are never for pretty unless you're setting off fireworks.

And I'm guessing even in this place those would not be appreciated indoors."

[stuck_mynock]

"I think everyone would appreciate indoor fireworks."

[presspasskey]

"Except maybe the people whose bar would get burned down?"

[stuck_mynock]

"Nah, everyone coped admirably with the bar burning down the last time."

[presspasskey]

"The last time?" she repeats.

[stuck_mynock]

"Yeeeaaaah. There was an apocalypse or ten. You should've seen it - an evil planet from my universe appeared in the sky. And there were monsters. And a big pillar of light."

[presspasskey]

"Oh. That. I heard."

Beat.

"So you don't think maybe they'd like a break from the environmental damage?"

[stuck_mynock]

"No. Don't be silly. Why would they want a break? It was the funnest thing ever."

[presspasskey]

"Multiple ends of the world. Fun."

[stuck_mynock]

Atton frowns. He peers at her with what could best be described as puppyish confusion.

"Why wouldn't it be?"

[presspasskey]

"You have a really, really weird definition of fun."

[stuck_mynock]

Mournfully: "No, it is the best definition."
