Leo Fudou is hypnotised by the bar's television.

Currently playing is Tentacle of our Waves, in which a pink squid (which, Leo gathers from the scenario playing out, is considered somewhat fetching) is fending off two suitors, one of which is her father, although neither knows it.

There's an abandoned book next to him, with text in an odd language on the front. It seems to have been forgotten about.


Atton Rand is on his back in the rafters, fiddling with a device of some kind.

It looks a bit like a car engine crossed with an accordion, and every so often it splutters out a series of blue sparks and makes a rather unpleasant grinding noise. Atton makes a few shushing sounds every time it does.

"Calm down," he mumbles after a particularly violent spray of sparks (followed, perhaps oddly, by a spray of purple glitter).

"Perhaps it might help with your problem instead."

Look, he's sprinkling it on you, Guy! Helpfully.

This? This is the face of a Guy that thinks your statement is distinctly untrue.

It is slightly undermined by the glitter in his hair.

It's been a while since Guy last saw Atton, many things have changed since then.

"My hair is longer."

Absently: "That'll be it, then. S'not practical, you know. Someone could grab it. And then hold it. While they ate you."

Beat.

"That'd be unfortunate."

Guy imagines that if he had ever met the Sheriff as a small child and was forced to talk to him? It might be like this.

Atton pauses, considering this.

"Also, Will Scarlett tends to look a mite peckish. And he's been giving you longing looks - and he's not keen on guys in that way, so it can't be for your flowing locks."

Guy understands that he has a counterpart in Scarlett's world.

Beat.

Thoughtfully: "Especially if he likes his meat tenderised."

"I should not think he cares too much, if he is an outlaw."

Is it time to change the subject away from Guy's 'meat'?

He can only try.

"Have you dealt with whatever creature you were battling?"

"Look. Look," Atton says earnestly. "I'm not saying that last winter was tough for Will, and I'm not saying he may have been tipped over the edge a little. I'm not saying that Guppy gave him a cookbook at the same time and that he became obsessed with it. I'm not saying that your fine living and high muscle-to-fat ratio makes you excellent cuisine. I'm not saying that Will has been stockpiling barbecue sauce. I'm not! I just think, you know. Be on your guard."

Pause. Headtilt.

"Which creature is this, again?"

"You're saying that he would rather eat human flesh rather than a side of beef."

Beat.

"And that he can read?"

And that, apparently, Will might be able to take a highly trained, experienced fighter like Guy.

"The creature that you were apparently trying to subdue up there."

"Well, he can definitely read," Atton says, a little petulantly. "This is an engine. What creature produces sparks and glitters? Lots of them. But you wouldn't know that."

But is that a response to the first point or the second?
