[OOM: We can't afford for me to do the right thing.]

It's been a long time since he'd last really 'powered up,' as Ruby teases him by calling it. Sam can feel the effects twisting through him. Everything seems brighter, sharper, clearer; he feels clearer, stronger, ready for anything.

He can't sit still, and he sure as hell can't go back to the motel room until it wears off a little - Dean'll notice something's wrong in a hot second, and Sam doesn't want to lie to him unless he has to.

He pushes through the door to Milliways instead. Maybe he can walk it off there, at least a little bit.

[OOC note: Sam is currently riding a paranormal high due to the effects of ingesting demon blood. If your character would be able to detect that sort of taint, feel free to have them do so! Just don't expect him necesssarily to admit it.]

"Yeah.

Well, this is a bit awkward, isn't it?

"For whatever it's worth, I promise that your brother and I didn't have a torrid affair."

The look on his face is priceless.

"... oh god."

It is priceless, yes.

"Sorry," Meg says.

"No, it's okay, just ... mental images, um -- look, can we talk about something else?" he concludes, rather desperately.

Meg nods. "Of course.

"Would you like to choose, or would you like to hear about the great 'should the wedding be filmed' debate?"

"... there's a debate?"

"Oh, yes.

"If there's one thing I've learned in the last year, it's that if it's involved in a wedding, there can be a debate about it."

"I may be sorry for asking, but... why?"

He looks as confused as he sounds.

"I mean, does it really matter?"

"It's a wedding. It's a set of social, cultural, and religious traditions in which my fiance and I come from different societies, cultures, and religions. Everyone has ideas and opinions and expectations; I do, he does, our families do -- his family really does. And these are all people I like and respect and am going to be dealing with for the rest of my life, so I can't just tell them to take a hike. And I don't really want to.

"So we debate things. Or we make a show of looking like we're debating things, and then Alain and I do what we wanted in the first place. Or we decide which things we don't mind making compromises on, and save the heel-digging-in for the things we're not willing to make compromises on."

Sam's silent for several seconds, absorbing that.

"... oh."

It comes out very softly.

"Sorry. I, uh... don't know much about that stuff."

He'd gotten the ring for Jess, but never gotten the chance to ask.

"I didn't mean to make it sound like it wasn't important."

"It's all right," Meg says. "You've got a few things on your mind right now, and I'm pretty sure my wedding is hardly your primary concern.

"If you want to go deal with the other things, you won't hurt my feelings."

Fully half of her expected him to leave the minute she told him he should talk to his brother.

Sam eyes her, a little warily.

"Are you trying to tell me to go?"

Meg shakes her head. "No, Sam. I'm trying to tell you that I won't mind if you want to."

Because if it were her sister, Meg would want to.

"Dean'll be at the motel when I get back."

Besides which, it's not like he can go back until he's wound down a bit.

"And we just came off a job."

Meg nods easily, though, honestly, she finds that a bit odd.

"All right.

"Up to you."

"... what I mean," he tries again, "is that he's not there now."

And it's not like he can go back until the effects wear off a bit, although of course he's not telling Meg that.

"So."

"All right," Meg says.

She smiles. "But I still can't think you really care whether or not they tape my wedding."

He looks sheepish.

"Am I a bad friend if I agree?"

"No. I don't think that makes you a bad friend.

"I think that makes you a guy."

"Well, I am definitely a guy, so..."

"So please feel free to direct us toward a topic that won't bore you to tears."

Sam laughs, and the ensuing conversation manages to land in a sweet spot that ends up being interesting to them both.
