[OOM: We can't afford for me to do the right thing.]
It's been a long time since he'd last really 'powered up,' as Ruby teases him by calling it. Sam can feel the effects twisting through him. Everything seems brighter, sharper, clearer; he feels clearer, stronger, ready for anything.
He can't sit still, and he sure as hell can't go back to the motel room until it wears off a little - Dean'll notice something's wrong in a hot second, and Sam doesn't want to lie to him unless he has to.
He pushes through the door to Milliways instead. Maybe he can walk it off there, at least a little bit.
[OOC note: Sam is currently riding a paranormal high due to the effects of ingesting demon blood. If your character would be able to detect that sort of taint, feel free to have them do so! Just don't expect him necesssarily to admit it.]

"And there's a war going on."
no subject
(Although bonus points for now knowing which era of demon to torture for additional info.)
"Is it related to Azazel, or a different war?"
no subject
Sam drums his fingers on the tabletop, becomes aware of what he's doing, and forces them to stillness again.
"When Jake opened the gate, a whole crapload of demons got out, but there's really only one that mattered in the end - the one he was looking to set free the whole time."
His mouth tightens.
"Lilith."
no subject
There are a ton of different mentions of Lilith or Lilit in occult literature of the multiverse, and almost none are anything like good news.
"He never mentioned."
no subject
"Yeah, he wouldn't."
no subject
"Okay," she says.
"So ... this Lilith demon got out. What does she want?"
And what's she done that's gotten Sam deciding to embrace the darkness?
That's the million dollar question that Ava doesn't want to zero in on too fast.
no subject
Sam's tone is acid. His hands flatten against the table, his knuckles whitening with the pressure.
"Just to free Lucifer from the depths of hell."
no subject
Hey Sam, when's the last time you saw Ava genuinely react to something?
Because you're seeing it now.
no subject
It shouldn't be possible for one single word to be filled with that much acid loathing, but evidently it is.
"She's a real piece of work."
no subject
Just.
Proceed with caution.
"Great," she mutters.
"Of course someone's trying to free Lucifer from the depths of hell. You know I wasn't sure we had one? Demons talk, but ..."
no subject
Does she know about Dean?
"Yeah, they're lying chatterboxes."
A beat.
"But there's a hell. Count on it."
no subject
She waves a hand in distaste.
"A Lucifer. Around here I've personally met four, but none of them were ... ours."
no subject
He drums his fingers on the table again, and shifts in his seat. Sam glances around the room, just to check that no one's started paying attention in the last couple of minutes, and looks back at Ava.
"Because I'm gonna stop Lilith."
no subject
"Hence the practice."
no subject
"Got it in one."
no subject
Can Sam make fire with his mind now?
Because that would suck. Pyrokinesis is the worst.
no subject
The look in his eyes is distant... and coldly merciless.
"I've still got a ways to go, but I'm getting there."
He shakes his head, and looks at Ava.
"I can exorcise demons now. Pull them out, and just... destroy them."
no subject
But she recalls dimly that she did that-- didn't she? During the apocalypse. She destroyed demons.
But that's ... the only time.
Normally she can't.
"Oh!" she says politely, nodding. "Okay, I, uh ... wow."
Pause.
"Sam, you know that's insane, right?"
no subject
He leans across the table toward her, as if trying to convince her of his earnestness by sheer proximity.
"But it's true, Ava. I swear it is."
no subject
It's just not very him.
Nevertheless, Ava doesn't back down. She shakes her head.
"Killing demons ... you must be great."
no subject
"... thanks."
A beat.
"I've still got a long way to go, though."
no subject
"How much farther is there? Do you know how hard it is to destroy a demon in the first place?" Beat. "I mean, obviously you do, just."
Of course, if Sam wants to personally kill one of the allegedly most ancient and terrible demons known to humanity (she's going with the Lilith myths that don't involve vampires made of salt), then ... fine, fair.
Long way to go.
no subject
That, and Ruby's little 'power-ups.'
"There's not much time."
no subject
"How much time is there?"
(And how does he know?)
no subject
He looks grim at the thought, and starts drumming his fingers on the table again.
Rap-rappa-rap.
"Sixty-six, and Lucifer's free. She's broken over half of them already, in less than six months."
