[OOM: We can't afford for me to do the right thing.]
It's been a long time since he'd last really 'powered up,' as Ruby teases him by calling it. Sam can feel the effects twisting through him. Everything seems brighter, sharper, clearer; he feels clearer, stronger, ready for anything.
He can't sit still, and he sure as hell can't go back to the motel room until it wears off a little - Dean'll notice something's wrong in a hot second, and Sam doesn't want to lie to him unless he has to.
He pushes through the door to Milliways instead. Maybe he can walk it off there, at least a little bit.
[OOC note: Sam is currently riding a paranormal high due to the effects of ingesting demon blood. If your character would be able to detect that sort of taint, feel free to have them do so! Just don't expect him necesssarily to admit it.]

It's not a pleasant smile.
"Something, yeah."

"What."

Sam glances around, checking to make sure that no one's close enough to overhear.
"Just, we have something. Me."
no subject
He's not sure what Sam means, and his face shows it.

It slowly sinks in that Andrew has good reason to not know what he's talking about, given that the last time they'd talked about his abilities--
"... so remember when I told you that I wasn't gonna need that spell any more?"
no subject
"... the spell we used for Beth?" He's frowning slightly.

It's something he hasn't thought about in a while: the special kids --
"What about it?"
no subject
"Turns out I was wrong about my abilities being gone."
no subject
"So you can ..."
Beat.
"What can you do with them?"
no subject
"Pull them out of the people they're riding, and destroy them."

He's not gonna condemn me--
"It was kind of a nice surprise, yeah."
no subject
He's leaning forward, eagerly. "How does it work?"
no subject
He breaks off there with a shrug.
"It's kind of hard to explain. It's like -- like something in me can feel the demon in someone else. Can make it respond. I have to concentrate, and it's like -- like I reach out, only with my mind, not my hand -- and grab the sonofabitch, and rip it out."

"Like, I dunno, prying something out of its shell."
no subject
no subject
"Dunno. I could always try."
no subject
Beat.
"But even with that, you said they're still winning?"
no subject
His eyes darken; he looks away, out at the room.
"I gave it up for a while."
no subject
"Oh." Startled. "Wh --"
Why, he's about to ask, and doesn't.
no subject
"Partly because of where my abilities came from in the first place." Sam says it flatly, still staring out across the room. "And partly because of who was teaching me how to use them."
A beat.
"But that doesn't matter anymore. We're running out of options."
