CAT: I'm getting married in a week or so, and the reception is going to be a potluck because we can't spare people to play caterer.
CAT: But planning has made me realize that *I* don't really know how to cook anything.
CAT: Who here knows how to cook? Would anyone be willing to teach me?

CAT: Seriously?

CPP: Course I can.
CPP: Been a bachelor for the past six years. Can't afford to live on takeout that long. And MREs don't last forever in the field.
CPP: Picked up some skills in AOT, picked up some more in the field, learned everything else from cookbooks and experience.

CAT: What kinds of things can you cook?

CPP: ...pretty much anything.
CPP: I can cook American in my sleep, and I memorized a lot of my dad's recipes for Mediterranean dishes. I can do a lot of Arabic, European, Latin American, African, and Middle Eastern stuff, along with some Hawaiian dishes a buddy of mine taught me back when I was with Team Four.
CPP: I can't do Asian, though. I always botch Asian.

CAT: Can you recommend something good for a beginner?
CAT: I can make headcrab jerky but that's about it.

CPP: My dad started me out on sausage and eggs.
CPP: Kinda hard to botch, unless you really try.
CPP: Spaghetti's good, too. Pretty much any kind of pasta.

CAT: Either of those appropriate for a potluck situation?

CPP: Depends on what you mean by "appropriate".

CAT: Are they easily portable? Will they keep well? Will they feed a lot of people?

[boston_bruiser]

CPP: Yes, yes, and yes.
CPP: Spaghetti'll feed a shitton of people if you've got the pots for it.
CPP: It's best served hot, but lukewarm's acceptable. Worst case, you can cheat and reheat it.
CPP: Sausage and eggs are more of a breakfast food, but you get some Tupperware from Bar and they're just as transportable.
