Mal is more than slightly disgruntled this morning, so he decided to leave Serenity and Inara's dulcimer practice for some bacon and gorram eggs. Best thing in the 'verse.
There will probably be some manful loitering about the bar before he goes to check in on his mother, but Mal's here for a while.
[ooc: workslow, but the captain needed an EP.]

When Mal comes in, he looks over because he sort of looks like a cavalry officer or a former cavalry out of uniform.

At the bar, Mal pats the top like he would shake someone's hand, asking for his breakfast, and, "No skippin' the syrup this time, xiexie."
He even asked nicely.
no subject
Syrup's usually for pancakes or biscuits sometimes and William's always seeing new things to eat here.

"The bacon. Not that the folk in my 'verse appreciate a good meal at all ever, but bacon and eggs and syrup's the way to do things."

Wives suck like that.

William eats when he's here because it means there's more for Mark at home but that doesn't sound like that he means.

Mal holds up his hands to form an awkward shaped block in the air.
" -- molded paste gou pi that is easy to keep on spaceships for a long period of time, but easy to get tired of."

Each roll on the tray is still warm from the oven, gooey with cinnamon-sugar and homemade vanilla icing, and roughly the size of a human skull.

This is apparently a yes. "I need a plate."
no subject
"No problem," she laughs. Bartending experience means she knows where things are kept (though sometimes she swears that some of the cabinets hold differen things each time she looks). One of the humongous cinnamon rolls is set carefully on a plate, and served to the captain.
She even throws in a couple of napkins for free!

"O' 'y go'."

One doesn't go into the feeding people business for the wages (which aren't much) or the hours (which are horrible). One goes into it for the look on someone's face when they take the first delicious bite into something one made.
"Glad you approve."

It'll be a pleasant diversion next time she's stressed at work and swearing that a job in one of the factories would be preferable.
"If you wanted to take some back with you, you wouldn't be the first. A friend of mine here used to take a bakery bag to work with her every week or so, to share with her coworkers. Cinnamon rolls, Caramel Cataclysms, Chocoholia, Lemon Lechery..."
no subject
"I'm going to desperately require the chocolate one and the lemon one."

Though...it's likely that Mal wouldn't recognize the tune.
(Someday Splinter will forgive his son for the Salt n' Pepa earworm. Today is not that day.)

"Splinter?"
Might as well say hello.
no subject
Whiskers twitch.
"Yes?"
no subject
Just be vague as hell about it all.
After a second. "Mal Reynolds."
no subject
"Oh! Hello Mister Reynolds. It is very nice to finally make your acquaintance, for I too have heard many a tale about your exploits."

Captain Reynolds it is then.
"Very entertaining, for certain. Exciting, for sure. Milliways is as close as I have ever gotten to outer space. My sons tell me it is quite the adventure."
no subject
But serious business.
"Mike's doing well?"
