Outside the kitchen door, late morning

Urquhart is sitting in the garden, near the kitchen door, with his dog by his feet.

On the table, he's got a pitcher of a light, pleasant beer and a very large stack of thick, vigorous asparagus, which he is peeling smoothly with a pliant knife, putting down each peeled asparagus on a tray that's covered with a slightly damp cloth.

That is a lot of asparagus he is working his way through, and your guess is as good as anyone's what he's peeling it for. He is not, after all, officially kitchen staff.

Perhaps he's peeling it for you? If you ask nicely?

"I always hated peeling things," the Fool said, his voice light and his eyes more brown than its usual glowing amber, "But since I was one of the younger ones, I got stuck peeling things."

He's obviously referring to Alexander's memories as opposed to the Fool's. Though it is quite possible that he too got stuck peeling things as well.

"Hey you," Urquhart says, looking up. "Asparagus taste best that way."

"Then you can peel it and I will eat it," he pronounces regally.

[scots_wolf]

"You can eat some of it," Urquhart says, indicating the heaps of the stuff that he still has to peel.

He sits down across from Urquhart. "I don't think I could eat all of it."

[scots_wolf]

"Good," Urquhart says. "Because I mean to eat some as well. I like asparagus."

[forgottenmotley]

Reaching over he picks up one of the spears and twirls it around in his fingers. "It's a good food."

[scots_wolf]

"Oh yes," Urquhart says, picking up another one to deftly peel it. "Very tasty. And so good for you."

Beat.

"Assuming you need additional goodness."

[forgottenmotley]

"What do you mean?" He tilts his head.

The bar seems to have known Rae had been feeling frazzled at work today and wanting to get away for a bit. She had wondered when the door to Milliways would show up again.

Strange how the seemingly-random bar-appearances stop seeming so random after a while.

"Hey there, Urquhart," Rae says, spotting him as she comes out the door and into the sunlight.

"Oh, Sunshine," Urquhart says, turning to grin at her. "Now, there's somebody who definitely deserves being plied with asparagus."

Rae smiles back, wry, as she comes over to his table. "Well, it is hard to say no to good asparagus."

She says it like it's common knowledge, because it should be. Asparagus is delicious.

"How do you prefer it?" Urquhart asks.

At least she's not going to suggest silly ingredients.

"I tend to like it steamed, with a little lemon juice squeezed over it," she answers, taking a seat. "Or roasted in the oven with olive oil and a little salt and pepper, and topped with chopped almonds."

Because yum.

"Steamed, with browned butter, and thinly sliced ham," Urquhart suggests. "But I like the idea of your olive oil version. I should try that."

Simple is best, where asparagus is concerned.

"I would pass on the ham, in any case," Rae replies, wry. "But butter is always good."

"Roasting the asparagus gives it an... earthier, almost nutty flavor that I'm fond of."

"Yes, I think I'll try that with some of this," Urquhart says.

Clementine's staring at him with the blank expression of someone who's forgotten their wallet. "You cook?" He didn't seem like the sort who would want to.

Urquhart grins at her. "Hello, Clementine, it's nice to see you, too," he says. "At the moment, I am peeling asparagus. But I cook as well, yes. And today, I'll be cooking asparagus."

"As always," she purrs. "Why asparagus? 'Cause it's spring?"

"Yes, it's in season, it is very tasty, and it's very good for you in many interesting ways," Urquhart grins.

She raises an eyebrow. "You can't tell me that without giving me details."

[scots_wolf]

"I can," Urquhart says calmly. "I think I just did so?"

"You don't want to tell me more about your interesting ways?" she teases.

[scots_wolf]

"I'd rather give you a hands-on demonstration," Urquhart grins.
