It is with great reluctance that Rose shuts, and finally sets aside her final tome. There is, she feels, nothing more to be gained from this line of inquiry. Or any other available to her in this place.
She is wrong, of course. But the young Seer of Light has no way of knowing that. I, on the other hand, am very close to omniscient. Heehee.
The tome is returned whence it came, and Rose heads for the bar, pausing there, to consider what, if anything, she should leave as a note.

It is possible to catch her there, before she leaves.

Standing not too far from Rose's place, is a familiar, luminescent figure who's currently draining a glass of something distinctly purple.

Give her a moment, she'll notice Rose eventually.

Or Rose will notice her, though that seems unlikely at the moment, given her introspective stance, and the thoughtful frown on her face.

It seems Kanaya is the first to spot the other, then.

When she does, she brightens visibly, and there's a brief moment where she makes sure she's clear of any blood before walking over to Rose.

Carefully, she threads her fingers with hers.

"Hello."

Rose looks up, momentarily startled, but her fingers close automatically with Kanaya's.

"Hello, Kanaya. I was just thinking about you."

Her lips curl into something between a smile and a smirk, and she squeezes the hand in hers gently.

"Were you, now?"

"I was. I was... considering what manner of note to leave you," she admits. "As I was planning on returning through my door. I believe I have exhausted the lore that I may research at this time, and I wish to further explore the resources available to me back there."

Oddly enough, this is the second time she's dodged a note being left for her at the Bar.

"I Suppose It's A Good Thing I Found You, Then. Now You Don't Have To Fuss With Leaving Me A Note."

Rose gives her a slight smile.

"Yes, that is true."

[bloodyvirgo]

She fidgets just a touch, running a thumb over the back of Rose's hand gently.

"And You Will Look Out For Yourself, Right?"

"I will be as careful as I can be," she replies.

[bloodyvirgo]

"That's All I Can Ask, Really."

[seeswithhereyes]

"Perhaps I will not be long. Certainly, as soon as I have acquired a few consorts, I shall endeavour to return."

[bloodyvirgo]

Eyebrows raise.

"We Only Really Need The One Turtle, But Really, A Few More Is Nothing To Sneeze At."

"I figure that genetic diversity never hurt any species."

[bloodyvirgo]

"Precisely. Though The Ectobiology Machine We Plan On Using Does Have A Clone Mutation Feature That Would Help Factor In Some Diversity As Well."

"Then I shall not worry too much about acquiring a quantity," Rose says.

[bloodyvirgo]

She smiles, and her hand squeezes hers again.

"Thank You Again, For Doing This."

[seeswithhereyes]

"It is no problem at all."

Rose returns the squeeze, and smiles back.

[bloodyvirgo]

Kanaya lets out a breath, battling with herself for a moment before she gives up on fighting the urge and pulls Rose into a hug.

"Here You Are, About To Go Face That Blackout Of Yours And I Hardly Know What So Say To You."

Rose stiffens for a moment, and then relaxes into it, wrapping her arms around Kanaya in turn.

"Then save yours words for when I return."

Not that she has any idea when that will be, but she can at least have as much optimism as she is able. After a moment, she pulls away.

"There is... something else I was going to leave with your note," she admits.

She hugs her gently until Rose pulls away, and eyebrows raise questioningly as she looks down at the blonde.

"Oh?"

> Rose: Give your Matesprit her gift.

Rose reaches into her sylladex, and pulls out a neat parcel, wrapped in black paper, decorated with purple Squiddleskulls, and offers it to Kanaya.

"Though I would appreciate it if you wait until I depart to open it, as that was the intent; that you would have something... nice, a nice. Surprise, I suppose. To remind you of me while I am gone."

Seldom has Rose ever felt so awkward.

"Oh!"

Kanaya takes the package from Rose with the utmost care, looking down at it briefly before setting it aside for it doesn't end up caught up in her fetch modus.

She takes Rose's hands in her own, and, steeling her nerves, she leans down to kiss her cheek.

"Thank You, Rose."

Rose flushes a little pink, and smiles at Kanaya.

"I hope that you will like it."

[bloodyvirgo]

There's a little flushing going on from the Troll as well.

"I Can't See Why I Wouldn't Like It. It's From You, After All."

[seeswithhereyes]

This is incredibly awkward.

"Then you will have to tell me what you think, when I return."

[bloodyvirgo]

"Of Course! I-" clears her throat, offering a shy smile. "I'm Probably Holding You Up, Aren't I?"

[seeswithhereyes]

"Well, it is not as if the Land of Heat and Clockwork is going anywhere," Rose replies. "But the sooner I go, the sooner I can return, I suppose. Of course, for all I know, I could step out that door, and return an instant later, from your perspective."

[bloodyvirgo]

Faintly, she recalls Karkat, some time ago, trying to gather nerve to face certain death at Gamzee's hand.

"If It Brings You Back All This Faster, Then I'll Let You Leave."

[seeswithhereyes]

"Thank you. I shall return with as much haste as is possible."

Rose leans forward, and, feeling incredibly bold, gives Kanaya a small kiss on the cheek.

[bloodyvirgo]

That brings renewed flushing to Kanaya's face, but she's smiling a little dazedly all the same.

"Good. I Will Speak With You Then."

Rose gives her one last smile, before heading for the door.

Someone who knows her well may notice her steeling herself before she opens the door, and steps through.

Kanaya watches her go. Waiting until Rose is through her door before reaching for the package she put aside. She glaces towards the doors once more before she opens it, just in case Rose does come right back through.

With no sight of her, she begins opening the gift.

Inside is an unspeakably soft handknit cardigan in variegated shades of green.

Kanaya beams as she spots the garment inside, taking it out immediately to inspect it. It's lovely and soft, and she pulls it on automatically, breathing in the faint scent of her Matesprit that clings to it.
