Solo Voyage
It's been a very long, hassle-filled day. Chief is largely a job of knocking down problems, big and small. Today, it was all about problems that were just petty. And there's no Henry out in the bullpen, no glimpses to give her a little sense of calm for reasons she wouldn't have been able to explain before last night. It's just not been her day.
So she slips out, tells the rookie on desk duty that she's going to find some lunch, and at the steps, makes a quick decision. Not out into the sunshine, but down to the evidence room and through the door, and back to Milliways.
The lurking concept of time in the real world waiting for her to come back is just a little too great a temptation today.
She steps up to the bar, gets herself a coffee, and goes to find herself a seat at a table where she can put up her feet and just have a break from it all.
[OOC: Plot is lurking, but open.]

It's lovely that he is, that he wants to. But ultimately, all she really wants or needs is just the time and space to be with him, no rushing to get home, no worries about who might see.
"You know you don't have to, right?"

He chuckles under his breath and shakes his head; "Just a few things, nothing elaborate - and I want to put away my clean linens before I forget about them."
After a quiet pause, he shrugs and adds; "And, I'm, uh... gonna talk maybe talk with Shawn about some stuff."
no subject
Cute? When on earth did she start thinking of anything relating to Henry as cute? She really is gone on him if that's what her brain is telling her.
But that's not what he said that's most important.
"When you say talk with Shawn about 'stuff' do you mean us?"
no subject
Slowly, he admits; "If it comes up... I think it's something we have to be prepared for him to eventually figure out."
He knows that she knows Shawn isn't actually psychic - he's the one that told her that. But, she also knows that his skills are good enough that most of the time it's hard to tell.
"I'd like to tell him before he has to ask us about it."

And Henry's right. Questions will be awkward and ugly.
"I saw both Juliet and Gus earlier, and Juliet seemed suspicious about our joint presence when we met her the other day. I think we're on borrowed time for Shawn finding out that we're coming here, at the very least."
She promised Gus that she wouldn't tell Shawn that she'd seen him, but extracted no promise from Gus to keep shtum about her.

"I'm only going to tell him what he needs to know, the rest of it can wait until we're ready to get there." He pauses and sighs; "But, yeah... you know how he is - there's always something he'll catch that we don't."
Like it or not, between getting his mother's photographic memory and the training Henry's given him since he was in diapers he's surpassed even his old man as a detective. Not that Henry'd ever admit to that.

She thinks about the scene for a moment. "This could take a while, though. Do you want to come back here tomorrow instead of tonight?"
no subject
"I'll be here whenever you're ready to come." He smiles warmly again, returning the soft kiss to her lips.

One that she may have had just the night before.
"A dream that starts with red silk and black lace."

He swallows hard, grinning sheepishly as his face grew even redder. "You realize you're getting really good at making me blush."
He hopes she never stops.

She strokes his prickly cheek again. "I'm being selfish, I guess. I just like you thinking those things about us."
no subject
Another sigh, this one tender and soft, escapes his throat and he manages; "If it's selfish - it's in the best way."

She sighs. Remembering that the rest of her day awaits her at home had jolted her a little. She hadn't intended on sitting here, talking to people and playing hooky for quite as long as she did.
"I'm thinking about an afternoon of paperwork awaiting me. Is it bad I'm hoping for a minor incident that'll pull me out into the field?"
no subject
"I'll trade you, I've got a thrilling day of starting my fall planting and cleaning out the garage ahead of me."
no subject
It's another one of those little domestic moments that fluster her, picturing Henry in the garden and shuffling around his tools. It's all so comfortable.
"And don't go wearing yourself out." She lifts an eyebrow.
no subject
"I'm not that old..." he grumbles under his breath; "I have no plans to be worn out until you're done with me this weekend."
no subject
A little movement of her hips and she can feel the light bruises, fingertip marks from where he held her that hard.
"Just recalling your way of throwing yourself wholeheartedly into tasks, is all."
no subject
"It it's worth doing, it's worth taking all the way."
And he means it, in every sense.

This place, their... whatever it is... screw rules.

"I like this new phase of my life a lot more than I thought I would."
no subject
"It's a good phase... hopefully a nice long one."
He sighs and kisses her again, finishing the tail end of his coffee in a large gulp as he pushes up out of his chair.
"Unfortunately, if we don't get out of here pretty soon neither one of us is gonna want to leave."
no subject
"Do you want to give me a call when you're done with Shawn?"
no subject
"Yeah, I'll let you know what happens." He leans down and presses another kiss to her forehead before adding; "Tomorrow morning - you're gonna get the nap of a lifetime."
no subject
She wants nothing more than to be cuddled up with him, dozing and talking and laughing and making love whenever the urge arises.
She wants to give him a massage. Probably tonight, after his garden and garage antics.
She just wants to be.
