In one gratuitously Millitimed (and we mean Millitimed to hell and back) corner of the universe, there is one bound and bored SEAL, sitting on a couch. He’s done his sparring, his PT, and his shooting drills for the day, and he's lost count of how many times he's cleaned and re-cleaned his gear in the past hour alone.

So what's he to do?

Play the Top Gun Drinking Game, of course.

Kenny Loggins fans might recognize the movie Voodoo’s just started watching on a flatscreen by the couch, but they’ll definitely recognize the opening notes of Mr. Loggin’s magnum opus.

Movies and the like are the entertainment of societies with far more technological prowess than Varric's own. This may be why there's a remarkably short, broad fellow with a massive crossbow across his back peering curiously at the... whatever it is.

It reminds him somewhat of the Window. But with less fiery doom.

What does a man with a BAC of .04 do when he sees a dwarf watching close by?

"You're short."

State the obvious, of course.

And then take a drink, because a MiG just showed up on screen.

"You know," says Varric, "I've noticed that myself. Can I ask what this thing is?"

He indicates the TV with a jerk of one thumb.

"It's a television. It's, like...it's complicated."

And then he takes another drink, because there was totally, totally unnecessary sweating.

"Television," murmurs Varric, like the syllables don't particularly belong together. "Huh. Can't say I've ever heard it, but it looks as if it's... I'm sorry, those are some of the strangest clothes I think I've ever seen a human wear."

"Flight suits," Voodoo says. "Pilots wear them when they're in the air."

On-screen, Maverick just took a picture of the MiG driver's mug. He is less than amused, if the bugout's anything to go by.

"Pilots?" says Varric. "Huh. Never thought that word meant anything but river boat captains."

He waves to one of the rats and orders a beer. Then he finds himself part of the nearest couch to settle on.

"I have no idea what's going on, but I can't say I've ever let that stop me before."

"Can't say I have, either."

Mav and Goose are talking to their CO now. Unnecessary sweating - drink. Mention of "Top Gun" - drink.

"Fuck, I ain't gonna make it to the end with rules like these."

"There's rules for this?" Up goes one eyebrow. "This television thing is more complicated than I thought."

Voodoo shakes his head. "Uh-uh. Ain't no rules for watchin' this, but some people...well, some people make up drinking games for watching movies like this. Like, this happens and you take a drink, this happens and there's a double multiplier, this happens and you finish your drink, this happens and-"

Ooo, they just mentioned Top Gun by name. And Voodoo's explanation is cut off as he takes a long pull from his beer.

"-basically you drink at certain points until either the movie ends or you quit."

"Hmm," says Varric thoughtfully, and knocks back some of his own beer. Why not, really. "You know, I may just have to bring this idea up with a friend of mine. There's a certain pirate I know who gets bored listening to the usual songs and stories you hear in Lowtown. This might just be the kind of thing to perk Isabela right up."
