Charles needs more tea and smiles at Sallie as he orders one, "Hello, what are you working on?"

"Learnin' how to pick locks and such. Mike's teaching me, and I needed to get some practice in. Ha!" The dead-bolt pulls back helpfully.

"I'm only on two pins, but it's a neat thing."

"That looks like a useful skill. Is it difficult? How's your other practice going?"

He won't test her shields unless she asks him to.

"It has been quite a while since we worked on things, hasn't it? I'm still not able to hear or see anythin' unless I touch someone, but I can shake hands and hug folk without picking things up. It makes a lady feel better."

"That's very good to hear. Yes, life has been rather full."

There is a young woman nearby, wearing artificial fairy wings, pink streaks in her hair, black stompy boots, and tons of make-up in her face.

She smiles at Sallie's pastime.

When Sallie looks up, it's...kind of hard to miss the lady watching her.

"Hello there. What's the news?"

"Not so fun," the young woman answers. "I've got a boatload of debt on my tab, for example. And there's way better picklocks than that."

[realmrsreynolds]

"I'm sure there are, baobei, but I'm just learnin', so I've got to start off with the basics, don't you think?"

At the mention of the tab, "Are you Bound here?"

"No," she says. "I was a bit careless when soused on Mardi Gras."

Jack is sat at the bar observing people. In appreciation of the warm weather, He's got a pint of lager in front of him, properly chilled.

Sally catches his eye, given that, "That's not a skill you tend to see people practice in public."

"And I don't tend to talk to a magic bar at home either?" Sallie returns, phrased like a question with a smile on her face. "Milliways is its own category. 'Sides, my teacher's here."

"Fair point. I tend not to talk about this place either," replies Jack.

"My where and when don't even have magic. Yours?"

"If mine do, I'm not in the loop."

Hey, no point ruling it out absolutely. Also, there is rather a lot of 'Advanced Technology' that acts quite a lot like magic at times in canon.

A teen superhero, in costume, steps up to the Bar and collects a soda in exchange for a dollar. He looks pleased with himself and nods to the older lady. "Hi."

"Hello there."

Not many teenagers here pay for their drinks instead of putting them on a tab. "And who might you be?"

"Invincible," he responds, grinning. "I'm a superhero." (As if the costume didn't make it obvious.)

Clearly.

"How're you invincible?"

Mark thinks. He puts down his drink and enumerates on his fingers. "It's my superhero name; I am invincible; and I got it from my dad. He's a superhero, too." Satisfied that he's covered all permutations of the word "how," he grins at her again, picks his drink up, and sips from it.

Rue stops at the bar to order a milkshake, and smiles when she sees Miss Sallie.

"What're you doing, Miss Sallie?"

"Rue! Hello, dear - I am practicing on how to pick a lock. Mike -- you know Mike, right? -- he offered to teach me how."

Rue nods; she knows Mike.

"Why would you want to know how to pick a lock?" she asks, hopping up on a nearby stool.

[realmrsreynolds]

"'Cause it's something I ain't had the chance to learn just yet."

And then there's Mike. And Splinter.

But Rue doesn't need to hear all that.

"It's surprising when you see a lil' old lady playing with lockpicks."

Dixie grins at the sight of Sallie; she hasn't seen her since the Allpocalypse. "Picking up some new skills, ma'am?"
