Kestrel smiles at the courtly manners, eventually taking her hand back.
"Good to know I don't have to go over them, then. Isabel's a sweet girl. And I'm from Denver, Colorado, America, 2004, although it's soon to be Boston, Massachusetts. And yourself?"
"Yes she is, she helped me out considerably whan I arrived. I'm a Lieutenant on the HMS Renown, the year of our Lord, 1801. I'm afraid I've never heard of Denver, although I'm familliar with Boston. It's a nice city for the Colonies." His father always called them 'the Collonies' and old habits die hard.
"Lieutenant." She grins. "Fancy. Denver... I don't think Denver was around that much, two hundred some years ago for me." She chuckles. "It's... a whole lot further west, in America, than Boston is. All the way to the Rocky Mountains."
"Oh, we sailed everywhere, it could be quite the adventure. When it wasn't being interrupted by long gastly streches of boredom. What do you do in Denver-soon-to-be-Boston?"
"A lot of stuff that doesn't really happen in your when, I guess. I'm working in a toy store just at the moment, but I'll be doing computer tech support once I'm in Boston again."
"Well, I'm not in my 'when' now, and I'm determined to learn about everything that has happened between then and now. At least as much as I can. Now. What's a computer?"
She laughs. "Actually, I have one upstairs, if you want to wait just a minute..."
Grinning still, she makes her way upstairs to her room, to get her Christmas present from Jonathan. The laptop's a bit bulky, being a late-90's model, but she'd taken it home and gotten it upgraded a bit.
A minute or two later, she's back downstairs, looking for Archie again.
"Well, yeah, and it kind of is... it's too bad I don't have Internet access here, I could show you some even stranger things..."
The computer does, however, have mp3s, and the Sims, and all the other random software that comes on computers. She starts up a media player, randomly picking something instrumental, and turns the computer to face him, as harps start to play.

*Instead of shaking her hand, he kisses it and not in a smarmy way, it's just good manners.*
"Yes, thank you. Isabel filled me in on all the basics when I arrived. MAy I ask where you are from, Miss?"

"So... lieutenant on a ship. Where do you sail?"

She smiles ruefully.

*Looks at the object Kestrel's holding quizzically*
"What is that thing?"
no subject
She sets it up on the bar, and waits for it to boot up.
"They can do all sorts of things, really."
no subject
"All sorts of things like what? It looks like a document case."
*He is interested, even though he's still back in the land of the abbacus*

"A computer. Or magic, if you'd prefer."
