The appearance of the Bar is a surprise. He is rather taken with the construction toys and not just because he finds plastic fascinating, but he still heads to the Bar where the vidscreen appears. That too is a surprise.
The explanation is fascinating and it resonates, the desire to honor the spark of life and to create and renew. As for the choices -
The first choice is not the shown metal thing, but rather something within it. A mind that propels a vessel through space. A ship that knows itself. But the sign of this ship is a red eye and that is as sinister as the black hand.
The second choice is a horse, grazing quietly.
The third choice - at first it looks like a mere reflection of himself, but he realizes immediately that it is not. It is who he could have been had he made another choice.
And so he makes his choice and his choice is to graciously but firmly say, "Thank you. But no."
So he takes his mug of tea and goes to inspect the brightly coloured toys instead.

When he sees Elrond, he smiles at the sight of what appears to be an elf, hopefully this one will be nicer than the last one he met, "Hello, are you looking for somewhere to create?"

He hasn't been working on it for too long so things are still in process.

Then he gestures to the free seat, Elrond is free to join him and he can order more tea.

It's not something Charles has a desire for, he is himself.

Someone has made the choice to get away from herself for a while, and has found it very liberating. There is nothing like the freedom of flight for dispelling gloom.

Not a show-off at all. Nope.

Things are simpler, as a bird. Every sight and sound and sensation more immediate to her consciousness. No crises of morality when the bright sky is there to zoom about in; no worries of whether or not one's hands taint whatever they touch, when they are such glorious wings.

She alights on his hand, perched along his finger, with a cheerful "Tiu!" singing from the long, curved bill.

Oh! She remembers, Elrond doesn't even know who she is!
With a chirruped explanation that probably doesn't do any good, the bird takes off towards the fireplace couch. It is very fast. After a moment of searching, it finds what it's looking for - what it had dropped earlier - and comes speeding back.
The colorful bird perches again on Elrond's finger, clutching a large piece of metallic-gold confetti shaped like a many-rayed sun, in its bill.

"I see that flight agrees with you."
