milliways_bar | (no subject)

When Thor steps into the bar this time, he's looking much more normal. (For Earth. Not really for Asgard.) He's in black jeans and workboots, and a sturdy brown jacket over a t-shirt -- borrowed clothes again, but this time they mostly fit, and they're suited to the New Mexico winter he's come from.

Of course, humans feel cold rather more acutely than Asgardians do, but Thor is pretty close to human at this point, like it or not. Anyway, he's used to wearing heavy layers of clothing. The jacket's honestly kind of a comfort.

He also steps up into Milliways, because he thought he was getting into a van.

Milliways is unexpected this time too, but his confusion passes rapidly. (And it's much less existential this time. Half a day and a good meal after his first Milliways entrance, Thor has his feet under him much more solidly.) He heads for the bar, although he's perfectly willing to be flagged down along the way.

Thor gives him a slightly dry look.

Sorry, dude.

(He's not sorry, though.)

He gives a ^_^ face.

"I suppose it's better than hitting your head on things," He continues. "And what do you call yourself?"

Thor rarely worries about hitting his head on anything, but in the past day he's been hit twice by a van. (The same van.) He can vouch for it not being fun!

He minded the hospital with its sedatives and restraints a whole lot more than the collision between van and his face, though.

"I am Thor."

"A pleasure to meet you, Thor." He gives a tip of his top hat. "I assume the god?"

Welllllllll kind of.

"My people have been named by humans as gods," Thor half-agrees, "though I would not say so."

"Belief often makes it so in the minds of men," The Fool says with a shrug. "I am the Fool, to be polite of course. Sometimes I'm called Alexander."

"It hardly seems polite to call a man a fool."

Thor believes in courtesy! Unless his temper's up, in which case all bets are thoroughly off.

"Even if they are one?"

Yes. It's true. Don't go around calling him princess for starters.

Some people could get away with it under the right circumstances! Loki, for example. But Laufey, at a time when Thor's spoiling for a fight anyway, is not that person.

"It may be true," Thor states, "but it is not courtesy."

Thor is a man of definite opinions, and more than that a man who's used to having his judgments listened to. It kind of shows in his solid, declarative certainty.

"And if it is their name or title?" He continues. "After all a king does have to have his fool."

The Fool on the other hand is used to be yelled at for his opinions and judgements.

Thor blinks, looking honestly baffled.

"Why?"

Guess whose court doesn't have a jester tradition?
